Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Leading goal scorer Jeff Heerema gave the Binghamton Senators an early 1-0 lead over Providence on Saturday night, but the Bruins would score eight unanswered goals on their way to an 8-1 win over the B-Sens before 4,596 fans at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
Danny Bois fired a shot that bounced off the end board and right to a waiting Heerema on the left side of the cage, as the 26-year-old winger scoped it past Philippe Sauve for his 19th marker of the season.
The Bruins responded with consecutive goals from center David Krejci to close out the first period scoring.
Kris Versteeg buried the Bruins third tally just 1:37 seconds into the second stanza, as they took advantage of a Neil Petruic hooking call to extend the lead to two goals.
With the Bruins up 5-1 early in the third stanza and Jeff Glass in net, Versteeg buried his second goal of the night.
The Bruins added two late goals to make it an 8-1 final. Krejci and Versteeg each finished the night with two goals and one assist, while Bobby Allen had three helpers for the Bruins.
