Chicago Wolves News Release
FRANKLIN PARK, Ill. --- The Chicago Wolves dropped their second game of the preseason as they fell to the Iowa Wild 4-3 in overtime Friday night at Franklin Park Ice Arena.
Right wing Mike Davies and defensemen David Shields and Sawyer Hannay tallied goals for the Wolves (0-1-1-0). Goaltender Matt Climie (0-0-1) made 25 saves in the loss.
During a fast-paced start, Davies opened the scoring on a power-play goal at 9:04 of the first period. The Wolves sustained that momentum through the first frame, doubling their lead with a minute left when defenseman David Shields tipped a Davies shot behind Iowa goaltender Mark Guggenberger (1-0-0).
Iowa (1-0-0-0) cut Chicago's lead in half 2:44 into the second period when a blast by Warren Peters beat Climie. The Wolves regained their two-goal cushion at 14:25 of the period when a shot by defenseman Sawyer Hannay snuck past a screened Guggenberger 21 seconds after an expired Iowa penalty.
The Wild came out strong in the final period, scoring goals 18 seconds apart. Starting the sequence on a power play, Carl Sneep fed Taylor Matson for a well-placed goal in the corner of the net. On the next shift, Sneep poked a pass through Climie's five-hole.
The visitors closed out the win just 21 seconds into overtime as Matson recorded his second goal of the night. Guggenberger made 26 saves to earn Iowa its first win since moving from Houston to Des Moines.
Chicago closes out the preseason with a game against the Milwaukee Admirals at 7 p.m. Saturday at Triphahn Center Ice Arena in Hoffman Estates. The Wolves open the regular season on the road Oct. 4 against the San Antonio Rampage at 7:30 p.m. The home opener is scheduled for Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. against the Rampage at Allstate Arena.
