
Iowa Wild Comeback to Win 4-3 in Overtime

Franklin Park, IL - The Iowa Wild defeated the Chicago Wolves 4-3 in overtime in a preseason game at the Franklin Park Ice Arena on Fridaynight. Iowa rookie forward Taylor Matson scored his second goal of the night just 21 seconds into overtime, capping off three straight goals for a comeback victory. Iowa defenseman Carl Sneep scored and added an assist early in the third period to help the Wild erase a two-goal deficit. Iowa goalie Mark Guggenberger (1-0) stopped 26 of 29 shots for the victory. Chicago goalie Matt Climie (0-1) made 25 saves in the overtime loss. The Wild will open the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7:05 p.m. against the Oklahoma City Barons.
Chicago jumped out to a 2-0 lead after Michael Davies and David Shields put the Wolves on the scoreboard in the first period. Davies opened the scoring at 10:56, potting a power-play goal from forward Cody Beach and center Christian Hanson for the 1-0 Chicago lead. With one minute remaining in the opening frame, Chicago defenseman David Shields scored from Davies to make it 2-0 Wolves after one period of play.
Iowa cut the lead in half to start the second period, center Warren Peters beat Wolves goalie Matt Climie at 2:44 of the period to make it 2-1 Chicago. Rookie defenseman Colton Jobke set up the team's first goal of the night. The Wolves countered with 5:35 left in the second period when defenseman Sawyer Hannay beat Iowa goalie Mark Guggenberger. Forward Pat Cannone set up the goal that made it 3-1 Chicago through 40 minutes of action.
The Wild stormed back into the game to start the third period, scoring twice in 51 seconds. Rookie forward Taylor Matson scored three minutes into the final frame to cut the deficit to one. Defenseman Carl Sneep had the lone assist on the power-play goal that trimmed the Wolves lead to 3-2. Iowa scored again just 51 seconds later when Sneep scored an even-strength goal to tie the game 3-3. Rookie Marshall Everson had the only assist on the game-tying goal at 3:51 of the third.
Iowa finished off the game 21 seconds into overtime, Matson took off on a breakaway and slipped the puck between the legs of Chicago goalie Matt Climie to give the Wild the 4-3 overtime win. Rookie forward Erik Haula and defenseman Blake Kessel each had an assist on the game's final goal.
Fans will get their first look at the Iowa Wild on Wednesday, October 2nd at 7:00 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena for the Green-White Scrimmage. The event is open to the public. Admission is free with the donation of a non-perishable food item (one per person). All donations will go to movethefood.org. Seating will be on a first come, first-served basis.
