Chicago Wolves News Release
MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Chicago Wolves dropped the opening game of their six-game road trip 3-2 in a shootout against the Milwaukee Admirals on Friday night in Amtrak Rivalry action at UWM Panther Arena.
Landon Ferraro nabbed the Wolves' ninth power-play goal of the season, and Justin Selman netted his first marker of the year. Rookie Samuel Blais also registered his second professional point in as many games as he helped set up Ferraro's first-period goal.
Chicago (4-4-0-1) opened scoring on the power play at 8:11 of the first period when Ferraro netted his second goal of the season with help from Blais and Kenny Agostino.
The Wolves did not extend their lead until the second period when Selman guided in a Ivan Barbashev set-up for the 2-0 lead at 6:41 of the frame.
However, Milwaukee (5-2-0-1) evened the game in the second period. The Admirals pulled within a goal, when Adam Gortz lasered a shot past Pheonix Copley. Then, at 16:36 of the period, Pontus berg scored his third marker of the season to even the game at two.
Magnus Paajarvi was the lone Chicago scorer in the shootout, while Frederick Gaudreau and berg tallied for the Admirals for the 3-2 final.
Wolves goaltender Copley (1-1-1) turned aside 29 shots in his third start of the season, while Admirals goaltender Jusse Saros (5-1-0) made 25 saves for the victory.
Chicago next faces its Lake Michigan rival, the Grand Rapids Griffins, at 6 p.m. Saturday at Van Andel Arena. The Griffins lead the 10-game season series 2-0-0-0.
