FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 4, 2016 Reign and Roadrunners Clash for the First Time Tonight
Ontario, CA - The Ontario Reign, proud American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL), square off against the Tucson Roadrunners at 7:05 p.m. PT at Tucson Arena in Tucson, Arizona. Tonight is the first of 12 regular-season meetings between the two teams.
Scouting the Roadrunners: Tonight's contest marks the first-ever meeting between the Reign and Roadrunners. On Monday, defenseman Kyle Wood was named the AHL Rookie of the Month after grabbing eight points (two goals, six assists) in the Roadrunners' first five games and is currently tied for first among AHL defensemen with nine points (two goals, seven assists).
Moving Coast to Coast: Similar to the LA Kings' movement of their AHL club from Manchester, New Hampshire to Ontario, California, the Arizona Coyotes relocated their AHL affiliate from Springfield, Massachusetts to Tucson, Arizona last May. Full Story
Establishing a Rivalry: The Ontario Reign and Tucson Roadrunners will meet 12 times in the regular season (six home, six away), tying a season high in head-to-head matchups with the San Diego Gulls. Gravel Recalled: Yesterday afternoon, the Reign announced that defenseman Kevin Gravel had been recalled to the Kings. The Reign also announced that goaltender Troy Redmann had been released from his professional tryout agreement.
Special Teams Battle: The Ontario Reign power play continues to lead the AHL and heads into tonight's game at 44.0 percent (11 goals on 25 advantages). Tucson currently holds the second best penalty kill at 90.3 percent (three goals against on 31 advantages). Tonight marks the second consecutive game the Reign face the #2 PK in the AHL after taking on San Antonio last Sunday at 91.1 percent (two goals against on 38 advantages) and finishing the game 1-for-3 on the power play.
