Sudbury Wolves News Release
The Sudbury Wolves are pleased to announce that they have acquired forward MIKE LOMAS from the Peterborough Petes. LOMAS, 20, is entering his fifth year in the OHL after being drafted in the 2nd round of the 2006 OHL Entry Draft by the Brampton Battalion. The Wolves delivered a 5th round pick and a 11th round selection to the Petes in return.
In 250 OHL games, the Burlington native has scored 60 goals, 90 assistsfor 150 points. During the 2008-09 season, LOMAS scored 25 goals, 31 assists for 56 points for the Owen Sound Attack and finished second in team scoring. Last season, Lomas tallied 13 goals, 28 assists for 41 points in 55 games in an injury-plagued season with the Petes.
The 6', 200lb winger is looking forward to joining his new teammates at the Wolves training camp this week. "It is great to know that I am starting the year with my new team and I'm excited to be joining the Wolves" says Lomas. "The Wolves have made it clear that they are counting on me to be a leader for this team and help out the young players. I welcome the challenge. I'm really looking forward to a fresh start in Sudbury and getting myself back on track with a big season."
"Lomas provides us with some much-need OHL experience and offence" notes Wolves' GM Blaine Smith. "He has a great shot and he is a proven goalscorer. He is a gritty player and doesn't mind getting his nose dirty. It's rare that an overage player of Mike's quality becomes available prior to training camp so we are pleased to acquire him at this stage of the season."
The Wolves will now have four overage players in camp including: Lomas, Alain Valiquette, Kyle Tarini and Kain Allicock. "We have created some good competition at all positions on our roster and overage positions are no exception. We have some excellent overage players that bring a unique skill set to the Wolves in their final year of OHL hockey."
"It will certainly take some time for our young forwards to make the adjustment to the OHL and adding players like Lomas will certainly buy some time for our young forwards to develop at a normal pace" adds Smith. "Back in June, we set-out to find players that can score and fill some holes on our top lines and I feel that we have done that in the last week with the arrival of our new import players, Robert Visca and Mike Lomas."
