Hounds Drop Roster to 25

The 2010/11 edition of the Soo Greyhounds is another step closer to taking full form. Following four days of on and off-ice activities the Ontario Hockey League club capped off "Training Camp 2010" this evening with their Annual Red and White game at the Essar Centre.

Team Red defeated Team White by a score 5-0 - grabbing a Team Red victory for the first time in three years. Team White outshot Team Red 40 to 38. Following the game team management and coaches met with numerous players and subsequently released a list of 25 that currently remain with the team.

Goalies (2) - Bryce O'Hagan, Matt Murray

Defense (7) - Derek Hartwick, Brandon Archibald, Gianluca Curcuruto, Dylan King, Brock Beukeboom, Colin Miller, David Mead

Forward (16) - Brett Findlay, Ryan MacLean, Carson Dubchak, Justin Thomas, Dominic DeSando, Jake Carrick, Mike MacIntyre, Jordan Carroll, Nick Cousins, Brett Thompson, Vern Cooper, Trevor Morbeck, Adam Chapman, Daniel Catenacci, Egor Omelyanenko, Myles McCauley

Ten players were subsequently released from the club, while two others chose to return home and two will start the season with team's Jr. A affiliate the Soo Thunderbirds. Released were Michael Doan, Daniel Lombardi, Mitchell Wedding, Brian Bunnett, Zach Aston-Reese, Kyle Rowe, James Prigione, Nicholas Romano, Adam Fares and Devin Loe. Choosing to return home were Ryan Sproul and Patrick Volpe while both Matt Fuller and Peter Angelopolous will begin the year with Thunderbirds.

The team will now have time to put one practice under their belt before departing for the Pre-Season Tournament in Evertt, Washington on Thursday morning. While there, the Hounds will take on the host Everett Silvertips (Fri. Sept 3, 7:00 p.m. PST), Portland Winterhawks (Sat. Sept 4, 3:00 p.m. PST) and Tri-City Americans (Sun. Sept 4, 3:00 p.m. PST)

The Hounds first OHL exhibition home game will be on Friday, September 10th when they play host to the Saginaw Spirit. Game time is 7:35 p.m. at the Essar Centre.
