Wolf Pack Thanksgiving Food Drive Nets over 1,600 Cans
November 26, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hartford Wolf Pack News Release
HARTFORD, November 26, 2013: Global Spectrum, operators of the XL Center and Hartford Wolf Pack, today announced that the Wolf Pack's recent Thanksgiving Food Drive raised over 1,600 cans of food for Freshplace, a food pantry that serves the Hartford area.
Wolf Pack fans were asked to bring canned goods to the Pack's home games November 8 and November 15 at the XL Center, and the generous hockey fans of the Hartford area responded with such generosity that over 1,200 pounds of food products were collected. According to USDA calculations that 1.3 pounds of food equals a meal, the Wolf Pack food drive donations will translate into 933 meals for local Hartford residents.
Freshplace, a program of Chrysalis Center, Inc., is a fresh food pantry serving Hartford's Upper Albany and Asylum Hill neighborhoods. In contrast to typical food pantries, at which people receive a bag of food that may or may not meet their family's needs, Freshplace enables patrons to choose foods that meet the health and cultural needs of their families. Patrons also learn how to prepare the fresh vegetables they select. Freshplace is a collaborative project among Chrysalis Center, the Junior League of Hartford and Foodshare.
The Wolf Pack's next game is on home ice at the XL Center tomorrow night, Wednesday, November 27, a 7:00 date with the Portland Pirates. That game features a "Movember" tribute to the importance of men's health awareness. The first 1,000 fans into the game will receive a free Movember "mustache" t-shirt. The shirt depicts Sonar, the Wolf Pack's beloved mascot, proudly showing off his Movember "'stache". Also, the proceeds from tomorrow night's "Chuck-a-Puck" promotion will be donated to Gaylord Hospital of Wallingford, CT, for its men's health efforts.
Tickets for all Wolf Pack 2013-14 home games are on sale now at the Public Power Ticket Office at the XL Center, on-line at www.hartfordwolfpack.com and by phone at (877) 522-8499. Wolf Pack tickets start as low as $12 for youth 12 years old or younger. To speak with a representative about season or group tickets, call (855) 762-6451.
