Peter Smrek Traded to Predators
Hartford, March 20, 2002 - Hartford Wolf Pack General Manager Al Coates announced today that the Nashville Predators have loaned defenseman Marty Wilford to the Wolf Pack. Wilford replaces Peter Smrek on the Wolf Pack roster. The New York Rangers traded Smrek yesterday to the Predators in exchange for defenseman Richard Lintner.
A fifth-year pro and a veteran of 148 AHL games, plus 158 International Hockey League contests, Wilford had been playing for Nashville's top affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals. In eight games with the Admirals, the 6-0, 207-pound Cobourg, Ontario native had a goal and three assists for four points. In 60 games earlier in the year with the St. John's Maple Leafs, Wilford had totals of 4-21-25, with 70 penalty minutes. Last season with the Norfolk Admirals, Wilford led the team in assists and ranked second in points (7-41-48 in 80 GP). That point total was good for ninth among AHL defensemen.
The Wolf Pack play three home games this weekend. Friday night sees the Bridgeport Sound Tigers visit the Hartford Civic Center (7:05 PM faceoff), Springfield is in town on Saturday (7:05), and the Worcester IceCats pay a visit on Sunday (4:05). Wolf Pack multi-game, coupon book, group-discount packages, and single-game tickets are all currently on sale. Further information on all Wolf Pack ticketing options is available at 860-548-2000.
