Dakota Wizards News Release
Bismarck ND, March 27, 2007: Despite finishing the game with their only five eligible players on the court, the Dakota Wizards won a close game tonight 110 -106 as they defeated the Albuquerque Thunderbirds to move into sole possession of first place in the Eastern Division.
Wizards forwards Darius Rice was a huge spark for the Wizards off the bench, finishing the night with 23 points, including 6 of 10 shooting from behind the three point line. Forward Quemont Greer added 24 points and nine rebounds.
The foul marred game featured seven technical fouls, which led to the ejections of Wizards center Rod Benson and guard Dontell Jefferson. Recently re-acquired forward Jerome Beasley fouled out in only 15 minutes of action, while center Kevin Lyde and guard Chris McCray were unable to play late in the game due to injuries.
Albuquerque had three players finish with over 20 points with forwards Duane Erwin (26), Dijon Thompson (27) and Julius Hodge (24) leading the way. Hodge almost had a triple-double with 10 rebounds and eight assists on the night.
The Wizards (27-15) are off to Sioux Falls as the top two teams in the Eastern Division battle on Friday night at 7pm. Albuquerque (21-23) looks to regain their winning ways tomorrow night in Tulsa.
