Los Angeles D-Fenders News Release
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA Development League snapped their seven game losing streak this afternoon at STAPLES Center by defeating the Fort Worth Flyers 125-98.
Los Angeles began the game on a 9-0 run and outscored the Flyers 38-16 in the first quarter.
The D-Fenders shot a season high 60% from the field and had seven players in double figures.
"I liked the start of the game, but I liked the finish too. I thought that we turned it up defensively and got some stops. We moved the ball and we were looking for each other. It was great to get a win," said D-Fenders Head Coach Dan Panaggio.
Guard Andre Emmett led the D-Fenders with 23 points and 9 rebounds off the bench. Brian Chase added 21 points on 8-12 shooting.
"I was pleased with the way the team played. They had the momentum from the beginning and it was a great effort overall," said Lakers Basketball Consultant Tex Winter.
Fort Worth committed 21 turnovers and shot a dismal 3-15 from beyond the arc.
"We were not focused and ready to play. The D-Fenders came out with energy and they were more aggressive," said Fort Worth Head Coach Sidney Moncrief.
Forward Jeremy Richardson had 22 points for the Flyers. Ndudi Ebi added 16 points and 5 steals for Fort Worth.
Los Angeles has tied the series at 2-2 after this final meeting between the two teams for the regular season. With seven games left, the D-Fenders now sit at 20-23 (.465).
The D-Fenders host the Idaho Stampede this Friday, March 30 at STAPLES Center, before the Lakers game with a 3:30pm tip-off. This will be the fifth meeting of the two teams with Idaho leading the series 3-1.
Having a Lakers ticket for a STAPLES Center home game is also your ticket to a lower level seat for the D-Fenders. Lakers season ticket holders who attend a D-Fenders home game will receive a special gift, while supplies last, by visiting the Season Ticket Holder Booth on the main concourse at the Figueroa Street Entrance.
On July 31, 2006 the Los Angeles Lakers announced that they had become the first NBA franchise in history to own an NBA Development League team. The Los Angeles D-Fenders play their home games at STAPLES Center pre and post Lakers home games. The Lakers devoted fans were given the opportunity to name the NBA D-League team in an online naming contest.
