Dakota Wizards News Release
Bismarck, ND: The Fort Wayne Mad Ants scored the first basket of the night, but from then on the Dakota Wizards controlled the tempo and the scoreboard shooting 56 percent from the feild, as the Wizards defeated Fort Wayne 115-92 Saturday night at the Bismarck Civic Center.
For the third game in a row, it was all about the All-Stars, as each Wizards All-Star had a double-double on the night. Forward Richard Hendrix put an exclamation point on the evening with a 360 degree dunk at the buzzer to give him 30 points and 18 rebounds, while guard Blake Ahearn poured in 32 while dishing 10 assists. The most intriguing double-double was that of All-Star guard Maurice Baker, who grabbed 14 rebounds and tallied 11 assists, all while not scoring a single point and only attempting two shots the entire game.
"You look at the stats and obviously Richard and Blake had tremendous games," said Wizards head coach Duane Ticknor. "If you were to tell me that we would play this well and Moe would go scoreless, I would say you're crazy. But that is a true test to Moe and what he brings to this team. He wants to win and will do anything he can to help his teammates."
It was not just the All-Stars who played well; forward Renaldo Major was 9-of-11 from the floor and scored 19 points, including 13 in the third quarter. Off the bench, guard David Bell, still with the five stitches above his right eye, was torching the nets from the outside, scoring 21 points for the Wizards who are now 18-12 on the season.
Mad Ants forward Ron Howard continues his hot shooting at the Bismarck Civic Center, as he scored a team high 31 points and is averaging 25 points per game this year against the Wizards. Walker Russell Jr., recorded his 16 double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 assists in the loss.
Dakota wraps up a five game home-stand at the Bismarck Civic Center on Tuesday against the Bakersfield Jam at 7pm CT, and the Mad Ants, now 11-16, return to Fort Wayne for a match-up Tuesday against Utah at 6pm CT.
