Tulsa Drops Idaho in Saturday Shootout

Tulsa, Okla. - Gary Forbes had a game and season-high 36 points, as the Tulsa 66ers defeated the Idaho Stampede 110-106 on Saturday at the SpiritBank Event Center in South Tulsa. Forbes shot 13-of-18 from the field, including 9-of-11 from the free throw line to go along with his six rebounds.

"Nothing is going to happen without effort, and we had a team mentality tonight," 66ers Head Coach Paul Woolpert said. "Hopefully we will continue to play the same brand of basketball."

Forbes kept Tulsa close in the first quarter, as he put in 13 points in the period, while Idaho built a 31-21 lead into the break. After a three-pointer by Idaho's Roberto Bergersen put the Stampede ahead 34-21 to start the second quarter, Tulsa went on a 15-2 run capped by a monster Keith Clark slam dunk and free throw, as well as a Moses Ehambe three-pointer that put the 66ers up 38-36.

Two more Ehambe three-pointers tied the game at 57 with 46 seconds remaining in the first half, but two free throws by Idaho's Lance Allred put the Stampede on top 59-57 at the break. Ehambe scored all 16 of his points from the bench in the second quarter, including going 4-for-4 from three-point range.

With both teams tied at 65 with 9:23 left in the third quarter, the 66ers went on a 14-5 run over the next five minutes of action, capped by two Ryan Humphrey lay ups that gave them a nine-point edge at 79-70. The Stampede battled back with an 8-0 run of their before two Gary Ervin free throws gave the 66ers an 83-82 lead heading into the final quarter. Tulsa shot 11-for-21 in the third quarter, compared to 8-for-21 for the Stampede.

Down 104-105, Luke Jackson hit a pair of free throws to give Idaho a one-point advantage with 47 seconds remaining in the game. But Forbes scored two of 12 fourth quarter points on a layup and then hit three of four free throws to seal the win for the 66ers.

Tulsa was 8-of-19 from the free throw line as a team at the three-minute mark of the third quarter, before going 13-of-15 down the stretch.

Idaho had two players finishing with double-doubles, as Dwayne Jones had season-highs of 31 points and 16 rebounds, while Lance Allred put up 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Both Jackson and Jamaal Tatum finished with 19 points each for the Stampede.

Along with Forbes, Humphrey scored 20 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for the 66ers, while Clark added 12 points and nine boards.

Idaho (19-11), losers of three-straight games, travels to Iowa to play the Energy on Sunday prior to the All-Star break. Tulsa (7-20) plays the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Sunday at home before heading to Colorado on Wednesday.
