Wizards' Center Returns to Dazzle

Roanoke, Va., February 1 - The Roanoke Dazzle announce that center P.J. Ramos has been assigned to the team by the Washington Wizards. The Dazzle have been designated as the D-League affiliate for the Washington Wizards for the 2005-06 season

This will be Ramos' second stint with the Dazzle after originally being assigned to the team on November 14, 2005. Ramos was recalled to the Wizards on January 19 and was active for one game against the Memphis Grizzlies on January 22, but did not see any action.

With the Dazzle, Ramos, a 7-3 center, played in 21 games, starting 19 of those. In those 21 games Ramos averaged 14.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and a league leading 1.8 blocks per game. Ramos' best game came in the MLK Showcase on January 16 against the Fayetteville Patriots where he recorded 26 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots. Ramos also leads the Dazzle with seven double-doubles on the year.

"We are pleased with P.J.'s progress and we are happy that he had the opportunity to practice with our team the past couple of weeks," said Wizards President of Basketball Operations Ernie Grunfeld. "We feel that by assigning P.J. back to Roanoke, he can continue to get the playing time that he needs to further his development."

Ramos will return to Roanoke today for practice and will be in uniform when the team travels out west to take on the Fort Worth Flyers on Friday, February 3.

The NBA Development League includes the Albuquerque Thunderbirds (N.M.), Arkansas RimRockers (Little Rock), Austin Toros (Texas), Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), Florida Flame (Ft. Myers), Fort Worth Flyers (Texas), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.) and Tulsa 66ers (Okla.).

The D-League offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Thirty-eight (38) players have been called up to the NBA on 56 separate occasions. Eleven (11) former D-League coaches, six athletic trainers, 14 referees and 30 front office executives have also been called up since the start of the league's inaugural season in November 2001.

Designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally, the league also offers fun, family entertainment at affordable prices. The D-League is a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 30 teams and is a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.
