Roanoke Dazzle News Release
ROANOKE, Va., Apr. 2 - Isiah Victor scored a game-high 35 points to help the Roanoke Dazzle close out the home portion of their 2005-06 regular season with a 100-91 victory over the Tulsa 66ers.
A night after letting the 66ers score 124 points while shooting 55.7 percent from the field and 69.2 percent from behind the arch, the Dazzle came out and played a stifling zone defense for the first time this season, forcing the 66ers to shoot just 37.9 percent from the field and 23.4 percent (11-47) from three point range.
"Coach Davison took a chance with the best three-point shooting team in the league and went zone," said 66ers Coach Joey Meyer. "He just figured we couldn't hit them three nights in a row and Kent had it right."
In the first quarter, Victor scored 12 points to lead the Dazzle out to a 27-24 lead.
In the second quarter the Dazzle looked to gain some breathing room extending their lead to 11 at the 8:30 mark of the quarter. The 66ers would rally behind Will Conroy, who scored 13 of his team-high 21 points in the frame, to gain a three point edge at the break 45-42.
The third quarter would be a reversal of roles from the second with Tulsa extending their lead, building a nine point edge with just under eight minutes left in the stanza. The Dazzle would rally this time once again behind 12 Victor points, gaining a two point lead, 69-67, after three.
The fourth quarter would go back and forth between the teams with three ties and six lead changes. Newcomer Brian Chase, who played a game-high 48 minutes in just his second game with the team, would provide the Dazzle with some breathing room hitting a clutch three-pointer from the corner to give the Dazzle a four point lead at 85-81. The Dazzle would hit their free-throws down the game extending their lead and taking the game 100-91.
"It's probably the biggest win of the season." said Dazzle Head Coach Kent Davison.
The Dazzle had four players reach double figures in scoring with Victor recording a leading the way with his 35 points, Peter Ramos had 22 points, Brian Chase chipped in with 14 and Malik Moore had 13 points.
For the game, the 66ers had five players score in double figures. Conroy led the way with his 21, Ersan Ilyasova and John Lucas both had 13, Desmon Farmer had 12 and Otis George recorded a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds
With the win the Dazzle climbs to 25-22 on the season while the loss drops the 66ers to 21-24.
Tulsa will head home to host the Florida Flame, Wednesday night at the Expo Square Pavilion while the Dazzle will wrap up their regular season Friday night taking on the Fayetteville Patriots in Fayetteville, N.C.
