Dazzle's Bynum named D-League Player of the Month

Roanoke, Va., February 1 - The Roanoke Dazzle announce that point guard Will Bynum has been named the NBA Development League Player of the Month for the month of January.

In 10 games during January, Bynum averaged 36.4 minutes, 25.9 points, 6.5 assists and 2.4 rebounds while leading the Dazzle to a 6-4 record. He converted 48-percent (73-150) from the field, 46-percent from behind the three point arc (12-26) and 87-percent (101-115) from the free throw line.

Bynum has scored at least 21 points in nine of 10 games and didn't score less than 19 in any of the 10 games. Bynum had four efforts of 30 points or more, with a high game of 35 to close out the month on January 28 against Fayetteville. He also recorded a pair of double-doubles (points and assists).

The rookie from Georgia Tech leads the D-League in scoring at 24.0 points per game and is second in assists at 6.7. Bynum also leads the league in free throws attempted (177), free throws attempted per game (10.4), free throws made (149) and free throws made per game (8.8) despite missing the first seven games of the season with an ankle injury.

The NBA Development League includes the Albuquerque Thunderbirds (N.M.), Arkansas RimRockers (Little Rock), Austin Toros (Texas), Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), Florida Flame (Ft. Myers), Fort Worth Flyers (Texas), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.) and Tulsa 66ers (Okla.).

The D-League offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Thirty-eight (38) players have been called up to the NBA on 56 separate occasions. Eleven (11) former D-League coaches, six athletic trainers, 14 referees and 30 front office executives have also been called up since the start of the league's inaugural season in November 2001.

Designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally, the league also offers fun, family entertainment at affordable prices. The D-League is a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 30 teams and is a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.
