Springfield Cardinals News Release

Springfield, MO - The Texas League announced on Monday that Springfield Cardinals 3B Patrick Wisdom has been named the Texas League Player of the Week for June 15 - 21.

It marks the third straight week in which a Cardinal has won at least one of the league awards, and the fifth overall award for the Cardinals this year. All-Star RHP Arturo Reyes captured the Pitcher of the Week Award for June 8 - 14, after RHP Thomas Lee and All-Star C Michael Ohlman swept the awards for June 1 - 7. Lee was the first Cardinal to win a weekly award this year, taking home the Pitcher of the Week Award for May 4 -10.

Wisdom, 23, helped power the Cardinals to a 4-3 record on the week, hitting .321 (9x28) with four home runs and 13 RBIs through the seven games. He started the week with a pair of home runs and five RBIs on Monday, June 15 in Tulsa, including the go-ahead grand slam in the top of the 10th inning that sent the Cardinals to the 8-4 win. Wisdom again put together a five-RBI day in last Friday's doubleheader sweep against the Naturals, collecting two RBIs in the first game before a three-run home run in the second contest. Following a 2x5 performance with an RBI single and a double on Saturday, Wisdom capped his stellar week with a game-tying solo home run in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings against the Drillers on Sunday.

The Murrieta, California native has enjoyed a fantastic month of June, compiling a .303 average with six home runs, seven doubles and 21 RBIs through 18 games. His six long-balls this month are tied for most in the Texas League, while tying for 3rd in all of Double-A and tying for 7th in all of Minor League Baseball for June. Meanwhile, Wisdom's 21 RBIs in June lead all of Double-A, while ranking 5th in Minor League Baseball during that time period.

Overall this season, Wisdom is hitting .261 with seven home runs and 35 RBIs through 48 games. In his second season with Springfield, he was selected by St. Louis in the 1st round of the 2012 June Draft out of St. Mary's College of California.
