
Winterhawks Win 6-2 in Seattle Saturday

The Portland Winterhawks (24-5-1-0) knocked off the Seattle Thunderbirds with a 6-2 road win (16-14-1-0) Saturday.
Seattle struck first 2:23 into the game when Jesse Forsberg scored to make it 1-0. The Hawks tied it with a power play goal from Ty Rattie at the 5:45 mark, then went ahead 2-1 on a goal by Presten Kopeck at the 13:42 mark, a lead they took into the second period.
The Hawks then exploded for two goals in the first 1:21 of the second period when Brendan Leipsic and Nic Petan scored to put Portland ahead 4-1. Seattle got one back before the end of the period when Connor Sanvido scored a shorthanded goal at the 14:55 mark to make it 4-2 going into the third.
Portland regained momentum with a quick start to the third period, beginning with a goal from Adam de Champlain 3:00 into the frame. Then Kopeck scored his second of the night at the 5:39 mark to take a 6-2 lead, which would stand as the final.
Leipsic extended his point streak to 18 games with a goal and two assists, and he's up to 18 goals and 25 assists for 43 points during the streak.
Seth Jones registered two assists and now has an eight-game point streak, with one goal and 11 assists for 12 points.
Mac Carruth earned his 100th career win with the victory, turning away 35 of 37 shots. Brandon Glover took the loss for Seattle with six goals allowed on 41 shots.
The Hawks round out their three games in three nights tomorrow in Kennewick when they take on the Tri-City Americans.
