Regina Pats News Release

First Period

The Blades picked up where they left off in the teams' previous meeting striking early and often. Brenden Walker opened the scoring when he tipped a puck in front that deflected off Colby Williams and into the Pats goal. The Blades would finally solve the Pats penalty kill as they tallied on their first opportunity of the game. Shane McColgan cleaned up the garbage after a Darren Dietz slapshot bounced to his stick off Matt Hewitt's pad for the powerplay marker. The Blades made it 3-0 when Matej Stransky kept his hot stick firing. With multiple chances in front, Stransky eventually banged it into the Pats net for his third goal in the last four periods.

Second Period

The second frame took on a very similar look to the middle period in Saskatoon. The Pats limited the Blades to fewer opportunities in the period, but Saskatoon continued to capitalize. Brenden Walker accepted a great feed from Stransky and finished it off with a smooth backhand move. Stransky made it 5-0 as he got free in front of Matt Hewitt and slid the puck in the net to end Hewitt's night. Teagan Sacher couldn't stop the bleeding either as Josh Nicholls kept the puck on a 2-on-1 and snapped the puck to the far side of the Pats net to put the Blades up 6-0 after two.

Third Period

Nicholls managed to score twice in each of the three previous games between the Pats and Blades and kept that trend going as he gave Saskatoon one more goal on the evening. Nicholls kept his stick on the ice and redirected a nice pass from the half-boards behind Sacher and the Blades rolled on to the 7-0 win as Pats fans let the Teddy Bears flying with zeroes on the clock. Andrey Makarov made 22 stops for his second straight shutout.
