Published on March 28, 2022 under Western Hockey League (WHL)
Portland Winterhawks News Release
The Winterhawks took two of four possible points against Tri-City and Everett over the weekend as they continue to push toward clinching home-ice advantage in the WHL Playoffs.
With six games left in its regular-season slate, third-ranked Portland sits three points clear of Seattle and 11 points clear of Kelowna in the Western Conference playoff picture, though the Rockets have eight games remaining.
Hot Hawks:
Forward Gabe Klassen led all Winterhawks with five points (3G, 2A) over the weekend, nabbing two goals and two assists on Friday before lighting the lamp for Portland's first goal on Saturday.
Forward Jaydon Dureau posted three assists in Friday's win for his second three-point outing in his last four games. He also celebrated his 200th game in the WHL during the victory over the Americans.
Forward Robbie Fromm-Delorme picked up assists in each game last week and has now found the scoresheet in three consecutive contests.
Defenseman Clay Hanus scored in each contest last week and had plenty to celebrate during Friday's win as he turned 21 and played his 250th game in the WHL.
Defenseman Ryder Thompson tallied his first WHL goal on Friday as he wrapped up a career-best four-game point streak.
Weekly Rewind:
Portland 7 vs Tri-City 1 (Friday):
The Winterhawks hit the ground running and never looked back on Friday as they cruised to a 7-1 win over the visiting Americans at the VMC. Gabe Klassen scored twice and added two assists as one of four Winterhawks with three or more points in this contest, joining James Stefan (1G, 2A) Cross Hanas (3A) and Jaydon Dureau (3A).
Portland 3 at Everett 7 (Saturday):
The Winterhawks held an early lead, but goaltender Koen MacInnes put in a 37-save shutout in relief and Jackson Berezowski struck twice as the Silvertips roared back for a 7-3 win in Everett on Saturday.
The Week Ahead:
The home stretch of the season continues with back-to-back rivalry games against Everett and Seattle!
First up, it's a rematch of Saturday's tilt as Portland heads to Everett once more looking to rebound from its first loss to the Silvertips since November. Puck drop is set for 7:05 P.M. for that game on Friday.
Then on Saturday, it's the final Battle with Seattle of the regular season. Portland has raced out to an 8-4-0-0 record in the season series with the T-Birds, but with just three points separating the two clubs in the race for playoff seeding, each game makes a difference as the Hawks look to lock up home-ice advantage in the first round. It's also "Jersey Off Their Backs" night, when our raffle winners will receive their one-of-a-kind jerseys from Winterhawks players after the game. Get your tickets here for a big Saturday night!
