Winterhawks Reassign Donavan Bodnar to MJHL
September 24, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Portland Winterhawks News Release
Portland, Ore. - The Portland Winterhawks Hockey Club today announced that they have reassigned goaltender Donavan Bodnar to a Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) club, to be announced at a later date.
The move brings the Winterhawks' roster down to two active goaltenders, Dante Giannuzzi and Jan Špunar.
The 16-year-old goaltender from West St. Paul, Man. appeared in three preseason games with Portland and secured his first win as a Winterhawk in a 4-3 shootout win against Spokane. Bodnar made 43 saves on 50 shots and wrapped up preseason play with 22 consecutive saves.
Bodnar has played for RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg's AAA program each of the last three seasons, including an impressive 2021-22 campaign where he posted a 10-6-2 record with a 3.17 goals-against-average and .912 save percentage, all while participating as an underage goaltender. He is eligible to play 10 WHL games with the Hawks as an affiliate player.
The Winterhawks' roster now stands at 24 players, not counting players currently away at NHL camps.
