WHL Tri-City Americans

Americans Stumble in Opening Night Loss

September 24, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Tri-City Americans News Release

The Americans opened the 2022-23 season today as they took on the Prince George Cougars on the road at the CN Centre.

20-year-old defenseman Ian Ferguson opened season scoring with Tri-City's lone goal of the night as the Americans fell 5-1. Ferguson's goal, the third of his career, came off an odd-man rush set up by Jake Sloan.

Czechia netminder Tomas Suchanek, who just returned from pro camp with the Buffalo Sabres, played the full game in net for the Americans. Turning aside 36 of 41 shots faced. Tri-City was out shot 41-24 by Prince George.

The Americans will stay in Prince George and take on the Cougars again tomorrow to wrap up WHL opening weekend.

Tri-City's Home Opener will take place on October 8th at the Toyota Center as the Americans host the Edmonton Oil Kings. Save with an Americans Flex Pack, our most flexible ticket option.
