September 6, 2011 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Portland Winterhawks News Release
Winterhawks fans should block off their calendars for the weekend of September 16 and 17, as the team will be hosting two big events at Winterhawks Skating Center on consecutive days.
On Friday, September 16, the Winterhawks will be hosting a preseason game against the Seattle Thunderbirds at Winterhawks Skating Center beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door for $5, with proceeds going to the Winterhawks Amateur Hockey Association. With limited seating, fans should arrive early to catch the action.
The next day, Saturday, September 17, the Winterhawks will be hosting a street fair from Noon - 4 p.m. at the rink and in the adjacent parking lots. Winterhawks Skating Center is located at 9250 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Highway.
Fans will be able to watch the Winterhawks practice at Winterhawks Skating Center, and then can lace up the skates and hit the ice themselves once practice ends. There will also be autograph sessions with Winterhawks players, and attractions such as a rock wall and mechanical bull.
There will also be plenty of fun for kids of all ages, with street hockey, the Winterhawks' inflatable puck shoot game, and a bounce house. The street fair will be catered by Seven Rivers BBQ, with beer available on site from Bud Light. The team will also have the University of Oregon football game on television so fans can check in with the Ducks during the afternoon.
"With the chance to get on the ice, meet our players and talk hockey, the street fair will be a fun way for fans to get excited for the 2011-12 hockey season," said Portland Winterhawks President Doug Piper. "In less than a year since its reopening, Winterhawks Skating Center has become a hub for hockey in Portland, and that weekend will be a great showcase for the venue."
Five-game ticket plans are now available and start at just $60 per person and include five free gifts. Group rates start at 10 people ($16.50 per person) and every ticket includes a free Winterhawks hat. Call 503-236-HAWK or e-mail seats@winterhawks.com today to guarantee the best locations. Opening night is Friday, September 23, at 7 p.m. in the Rose Garden.
