Chiefs News: Four Chiefs to Attend NHL Camps

Four Chiefs will depart this week to attend camps with NHL franchises, including the three that were selected this summer in the Entry Draft.

Brenden Kichton, the New York Islanders' fifth round selection, will take part in their rookie camp with the first practice set for Saturday, September 10th. The Islanders rookies will play a pair of exhibition games against the Boston Bruins rookies on September 12th and 13th.

Two Chiefs will then face off in a rookie tournament as Dominik Uher and the Pittsburgh Penguins will travel to play in the Ottawa Senators pre-season tournament. Darren Kramer will be one of 23 players that will skate for Ottawa. Kramer, Ottawa's sixth round selection, will be joined on the roster by former Chiefs' captain Jared Cowen, who was their first round pick in 2009. The Senators' and Penguins will play in the first game on Saturday, September 10th. Uher was taken by the Penguins in the fifth round. The tournament will also feature the Chicago Blackhawks and Toronto Maple Leafs

Blake Gal has earned a free agent invitation to participate with the Calgary Flames prospects that will play in the Young Stars Tournament in Penticton, B.C. The tournament, which will also have the Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, San Jose Sharks and Winnipeg Jets, will begin on September 11th.

CHIEFS REASSIGN FOUR

The Spokane Chiefs reassigned four players on Tuesday leaving themselves with a roster of 27. Fifteen-year-olds Markson Bechtold, the Chiefs third round selection in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft, and Kyle Clayton, fifth round, were sent to Abbotsford of the BC Midget Hockey League and the UFA Bisons of the Alberta Midget Hockey League, respectively. Bechtold played one pre-season game over the weekend and had a goal.

The Chiefs also sent 16-year-old defenseman Bo Pellah to Abbotsford of the BC Midget Hockey League and Riley Whittingham to the Calgary Northstars of the Alberta Midget Hockey League. Whittingham played two games last weekend and had one goal.

The moves leave the Chiefs with three goaltenders, 10 defensemen and 14 forwards. Spokane will play twice this weekend at the Red Lion Hotels Pre-Season Tournament in Kennewick taking on the Seattle Thunderbirds on Friday and host Americans Saturday.
