Friday, September 2nd, 2011 vs. Victoria Royals - 4-2 Win
The Kamloops Blazers opened the preseason with a win over the Victoria Royals at the McArthur Island Sports Centre. Veterans JT Barnett, Colin Smith, Chase Schaber and Chase Souto tallied for the Blazers. Goaltenders Cam Lanigan and Cole Cheveldave split the goaltending duties each allowing one goal. The Blazers 2011 first round pick, Jordan Thomson played his first WHL exhibition game and picked up an assist in the victory.
Saturday, September 3rd, 2011 at Vancouver Giants - 6-3 Loss
The Blazers were burned by the powerplay in their second exhibition game of the weekend. The Giants scored five powerplay goals in a 6-3 win at the Ladner Leisure Centre. Defenseman Austin Madaisky scored two goals, one shorthanded and another on the powerplay for the Blazers. Chase Souto also scored for the second time in the preseason. Goaltender Cole Cheveldave and Taran Kozun each allowed three goals in the loss.
Eight Players Bound for NHL Camps
Eight Blazers will be leaving the team this week for NHL training camps. Forwards Chase Schaber (Edmonton Oilers), Dylan Willick (Minnesota Wild), Jordan DePape (Winnipeg Jets), Colin Smith (Edmonton Oilers), and JT Barnett (New Jersey Devils) will all be attending camps as free agents. Defensemen Josh Caron (Minnesota Wild) is signed by the Minnesota Wild. Austin Madaisky (Columbus Blue Jackets) and Brendan Ranford (Philadelphia Flyers) were both drafted in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets and Philadelphia Flyers. The Blazers are celebrating 30 years of junior hockey in Kamloops this season. Reassignments, Roster at 27 Players
The Blazers reassigned two players following weekend exhibition games. 15-year-old defenseman Jordan Thomson was sent back to the Midget AAA Southwest Cougars. The Wawanesa, MB native played in one exhibition game and picked up an assist in Friday's 4-2 win over the Victoria Royals. 17-year-old forward Dallas Calvin has been sent to the Trail Smoke Eaters of the BCHL. He was pointless in two exhibition games.
