Winterhawks End Road Trip with 3-1 Win in Kelowna Saturday

The Portland Winterhawks (11-7-1-1) wrapped up their nine-game road trip with a 3-1 win in Kelowna Saturday against the Rockets (5-10-1-1). The Hawks finished the nine-game road trip with a record of 5-3-0-1, including three straight wins to wind up the trip.

Portland opened the scoring just 38 seconds into the game when Ty Rattie scored his 15th goal of the season, giving him points in 11 of his last 12 games. Kelowna evened the game at the 3:12 mark on the first goal of the season from Jessey Astles to tie the game at 1-1.

The score remained 1-1 through most of the second, until Portland defenseman Derrick Pouliot scored a power play goal with 14 seconds left in the period to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead going into the third.

Pouliot then added his second of the game 5:12 into the third when he deflected a Ty Rattie shot past Rockets netminder Adam Brown to give the Hawks a 3-1 lead that would stand as the final.

Sven Bartschi had assists on all three Portland goals, as he's now up to 24 points in 11 games this season. Rattie and Pouliot both finished with two points.

Mac Carruth was strong in net, making 30 saves on 31 Kelowna shots. Brown made 31 saves on 34 Portland shots.

The Hawks were 1-4 on the power play and a perfect 3-3 on the penalty kill.

The Hawks are now off until next weekend, when they play a back-to-back set against the Spokane Chiefs Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 5 p.m., both in the Rose Garden.
