Chiefs Drop First Game at Home

The Spokane Arena hosted 9,856 enthusiastic fans as the Chiefs dropped their first home game of the year by a 4-1 score to their division rival Tri-City Americans in a 4-1 loss. With the win the Tri-City now leads the season series three games to one.

The visiting team got off to a fast start jumping out to a three goal lead in the first period. Jordan Messier got things started for the Americans, scoring from the left side of the crease on the power play at 3:40 of the first.

Nathan MacMaster found rebound and blasted it home at 12:47 of the first to give Tri Cities a two goal lead. Adam Hughesman finished off the scoring in the first by blasting a slap shot from the left face off circle.

Mike Aviani put the Chiefs on the board at 19:35 of the second picking up the puck on a rebound from Davis Vandane and scoring with his backhand.

Luke Lee-Knight stopped 16 of the 17 shots he faced after replacing Mac Engel 13:45 into the first period.

Tri-Cities scored the loan goal of the third period when Drydn Dow tipped in a Patrick Holland shot at 13:23.

The Chiefs went 0-5 on the powerplay, and the Americans were 1-3. Tri City outshot the Chiefs 25-24. Aviani was the games third star, with Hughesman and Messier earning the second and first stars respectively.
