April 8, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Portland Winterhawks News Release
The Portland Winterhawks are pleased to announce the additions of Julia Wong to the hockey operations department and Walt Ruff to the front office's communications staff.
Julia Wong will assume the position of Alumni Relations Coordinator with the Winterhawks. Wong is currently a sophomore at the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication.
Wong becomes the first to accept the newly named Brent Peterson internship position with the club. Peterson played for the Winterhawks during their first two seasons after relocating to Portland from 1976 to 1978 and he tallied 208 points in 133 games with the Hawks. He went on to coach the Winterhawks from 1991 to 1998 and he guided the organization to its second Memorial Cup Championship during the 1997-98 season.
Over the last 45 years, the Winterhawks have helped hundreds of young men and women launch their professional careers both on and off the ice. Wong's efforts will help connect the city of Portland to the Winterhawks incredible alumni base.
Ruff joins the Winterhawks for the 2020-21 WHL season as a Communications Specialist. He brings five seasons of media experience to Portland, most recently working within the Arizona Coyotes organization as the Manager of Media Relations for the team's AHL affiliate.
Ruff will oversee the Winterhawks' social media channels, curate press releases, manage the team's website, and assist in other communications efforts for both the fans and media.
