Chiefs Force Overtime, Fall 5-4 to Thunderbirds

Spokane, Wash. - Seattle's Connor Roulette finished a two-on-one with 13-seconds remaining in overtime to give the Thunderbirds a 5-4 win over the Chiefs on Sunday night in Spokane. The Chiefs earned two points on the weekend with their second loss in overtime in as many nights.

The Chiefs opened the scoring at 13:59 of the first period when Reed Jacobson flipped one backhanded across and into the Thunderbirds net to make it 1-0 Spokane.

Seattle registered goals in the final minute of the period and again just minutes into the second to storm ahead 2-1, but a Chiefs power play opportunity turned into Blake Swetlikoff's second career WHL goal after recording his first last night to tie things at 2-2 at 5:15 of the second. Spokane regained the lead with their second power play goal of the night as Erik Atchison deflected home a Bobby Russell slapshot at 15:28.

Just seconds after killing off a 5-on-3 power play, the Chiefs defense surrendered the game-tying score as Winnipeg Jets prospect Tyrel Bauer fired one from the blueline that found its way through traffic and into the Spokane net. The T-Birds added their second goal of the period at 8:57 to move ahead 4-3, but it was an NHL prospect from the Spokane side that tied things again as Minnesota Wild draft pick Adam Beckman connected at 10:40 to give the Chiefs their season-high fourth goal of the night.

With no scores in the back half of the final period, things moved to overtime, where it remained scoreless until the the 4:47 mark when a Henrik Rybinski pass found Roulette in the slot as he connected for the game-winner.

The Chiefs special teams performed brilliantly on the night, converting three of five chances and killing off all three Thunderbirds power plays, but Thomas Milic's 33-of-37 performance in net bested Spokane and netminder Mason Beaupit, who ended the night 37-of-42.

The Chiefs are back in action Wednesday at the Spokane Arena with puck drop scheduled for 6:10 p.m. as Spokane takes on the Tri-City Americans. The game will be broadcast live on TV via SWX and over the radio waves on 103.5 FM The Game.
