Winterhawks and Toyota Launch New Amazon Alexa Fan Feature
September 27, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Portland Winterhawks News Release
The Portland Winterhawks hockey team in partnership with our local Toyota dealers are pleased to announce a new way for fans to follow Winterhawks hockey action with the use of Amazon's Alexa voice device for post-game recaps. With the help from SQWAD Sports Inc., Alexa will come alive with Winterhawks information by using the phrase, "Alexa, launch the Winterhawks Toyota Game Recap." The Portland Winterhawks are the first team in the Western Hockey League to tap into this new and exciting voice technology. Using Alexa will allow Winterhawks fans the opportunity to get game results and highlights by launching the game recap through their Alexa device.
"The Winterhawks have always been looking to push innovation since we started working with them. Voice is the next frontier in technology and an immersive way to connect fans with their favorite team. We're excited to be able to help them push the limits of fan engagement through voice and become a pioneer in this medium in sports," said Nick Lawson, Head of Business Development and Activation at SQWAD Sports Inc.
"We recognize that Amazon's Alexa device is rapidly growing in popularity as a way for fans to receive information and updates about their favorite teams," said Rich Franklin, Vice President of Corporate Partnerships for the Winterhawks. "Our great partners at Toyota also recognize this and we are excited to partner with them to bring game recaps and other information to Winterhawks fans in Portland and around the world."
The Winterhawks Toyota Game Recap is now active on all Amazon Alexa devices, and will be updated within two hours of the game ending. Siri and Google Play will be coming soon as well. Additional information is available via our social media channels.
