January 7, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Portland Winterhawks News Release
Portland, Ore. - The Portland Winterhawks, proud member club of the Western Hockey League, announced today the addition of 16-year-old forwards Josh Zakreski and Nick Johnson as well as defenseman Rhett Ravndahl to the team's active roster ahead of Saturday's game in Kelowna.
All three prospects will join the Winterhawks as affiliate players and will be eligible to play this weekend during the Hawks road trip through British Columbia.
Zakreski, 16, returns to Portland's roster after making his WHL debut on Nov. 12 at Seattle. Zakreski played two games during his previous stint with the Winterhawks this year before returning to the Saskatoon Blazers of the SMAAAHL. Zakreski has tallied 10 goals and 11 assists for 21 points in 20 games with the Blazers this year. The Saskatoon, Sask. native was originally selected in the eighth round (#176 overall) during the 2020 WHL Draft.
Johnson, 16, ranks third on Edge School's U18 Prep team with 28 points in 22 games this season. Johnson, who has spent the last four seasons developing with Edge School's program, signed with the Winterhawks in late September after being selected by Portland in the tenth round (#220 overall) of the 2020 WHL Draft.
Ravndahl, 16, joins the Winterhawks after picking up three goals and 16 assists for 19 points in 27 games with the Prince Albert Mintos of the SMAAAHL. After spending the last three seasons with the Mintos, he is now the team captain of the U18 program. Ravndahl signed with Portland in late June after being selected in the fourth round (#83 overall) by the Winterhawks during the 2020 WHL Draft, then participated in his first preseason, notching two assists in four games.
All three players would have participated at the prestigious Mac's Tournament in Calgary this year had the event not been cancelled. As affiliate players, Zakreski, Johnson and Ravndahl are eligible to play up to six games with the Winterhawks.
