
Winterhawks Acquire Goaltender Gauthier from Prince George

Portland, Ore. - The Portland Winterhawks, proud member club of the Western Hockey League, announced today that the club has acquired goaltender Taylor Gauthier from the Prince George Cougars in exchange for defenseman Jonas Brøndberg, a third-round selection in the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft and two conditional fifth-round selections.
Gauthier, 20, is currently in his fifth WHL season and has played 166 games, all with the Cougars. Originally a first-round, tenth-overall selection of Prince George in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft, Gauthier boasts a career .906% save percentage and 3.19 GAA, with six shutouts. This season, the Calgary, Alta. native has posted a dazzling .923% save percentage and 2.75 GAA through 14 appearances.
During his junior career, Gauthier has represented Canada on the international stage at the U17 and U18 World Championships, and won a silver medal with Hockey Canada at the U20 World Junior Championships last season. Gauthier has also garnered NHL attention during his WHL career with multiple acknowledgements on NHL's Central Scouting lists.
Brøndberg, 20, is currently in his third and final WHL season and has played 90 games, all with the Winterhawks. Brøndberg has recorded nine goals and 24 assists for 33 points during his WHL career, including five helpers in 20 games this year. Originally selected in the second round, 100th overall in the 2019 CHL Import Draft by Portland, Brøndberg served as an alternate captain for the Winterhawks during the 2021-22 season.
A native of Aalborg, DEN, Brøndberg has represented Denmark in international play since 2016, playing at the U16, U18 and U20 levels for his home country.
