Prince Albert Raiders News Release
Prince Albert, Sask. - The Prince Albert Raiders (12-15-1-1) dropped a 4-1 game to the Saskatoon Blades (16-13-1-0) on Monday night at the Art Hauser Centre in their first action after the holiday break.
Landon Kosior scored the lone goal for the Raiders in the loss to give him his seventh of the season.
The Blades got the scoring started with 4:27 remaining in the opening frame, just after killing a Raiders' two-man advantage. Tanner Molendyk, who took one of the penalties, cut into the Raiders' end and fired a shot on goal. Tikhon Chaika got a piece of the shot, but not enough as the Blades went up 1-0.
In the second period, Saskatoon extended their lead to 2-0 at the 8:22 mark. Jayden Wiens won the puck behind the Raiders' goal and sent it to Rowan Calvert at the side of the goal. Calvert was able to lift the his shot over Chaika for his first WHL goal.
Late in the middle frame, Kosior got the Raiders on the board with a power-play marker. Carson Latimer set Sloan Stanick up with the puck to the right of the Blades' goal. Stanick fired a pass to the left faceoff circle for Kosior to one-time through Nolan Maier toa make it 2-1 after two periods.
Saskatoon restored their two-goal advantage following a turnover in the third period. Spencer Shugrue forced the giveaway at the blueline and his quick shot beat Chaika to put the Blades up 3-1 with 13:13 remaining in the game.
The Raiders tried to take advantage of a power play late in the third period by pulling Chaika for the extra attacker. However, Charlie Wright gained control of the puck for the Blades in his team's end and put the puck the length of the ice for the empty netter, rounding out the scoring at 4-1.
Chaika finished the game with 15 saves in the loss. Maier stopped 23 shots to pick up the win.
The Raiders are back in action on Wednesday night when the Red Deer Rebels visit the Art Hauser Centre. Game time is 7 p.m. Tickets are available at SaskTix.ca and at the Raiders Office.
