WINSTON-SALEM, NC (June 27, 2012) - The Dash scored first for the third straight game and held on to beat Salem 5-3 Wednesday afternoon at BB&T Ballpark to earn a tie in the four-game series.

Cyle Hankerd blasted a three-run home run in the seventh inning, his sixth of the season, to break a 2-2 tie and push the Dash to a 5-2 lead they would not relinquish.

For the third straight game, Marcus Semien led off with a base hit and a run. With two outs Dan Black plated Semien for a 1-0 lead on his 40th RBI of the season. The Dash proceeded to load the bases but could not add another run in the first inning.

Winston-Salem (3-4, 47-29-1) added a run in the second inning. Semien reached second on a misplayed ball in left field, and Carlos Sanchez promptly followed with a run-producing single to make it 2-0.

Salem (2-5, 43-33-1) quickly erased the deficit with two runs in the third inning. Drew Hedman drew a leadoff walk and with two outs scored on a Matty Johnson triple. Heiker Meneses singled home Johnson to tie the game 2-2.

The decisive seventh inning for the Dash started with a Brady Shoemaker walk. Trayce Thompson battled from behind in the count to also draw a walk and put two men on. Hankerd came to the plate having reached base in his previous three plate appearances. With the count full, Hankerd fouled off three pitches to stay alive before grooving a ball over the left field wall. He finished the day 2-for-2 with three RBI.

Justin Collop delivered six solid innings for the Dash, striking out six batters and allowing two runs. Jon Bachanov entered in relief to pitch two innings of one-run ball before giving way to Chris Bassitt, who threw a perfect ninth to record his third save.

The Dash begin a three-game series against the Frederick Keys Thursday. It will be a showdown of highly-touted prospects as right-hander Jake Petricka (4-4, 5.40 ERA) takes the ball for Winston-Salem. The fourth overall pick in the 2011 draft Dylan Bundy (3-2, 3.42 ERA) makes the start for Frederick.
