Woodbridge, VA - Down from Double-A, right-hander Elisaul Pimentel's return to the Wilmington rotation did not go well. He allowed seven runs (six earned) over 4.1 innings as the Blue Rocks (31-46, 2-5) fell to the Potomac Nationals (35-42, 4-3) on Wednesday night, 7-4. With the win the P-Nats split the four-game series and the Blue Rocks posted a 2-5 record on their first road trip of the second half.

Down 2-0, the Rocks assembled a three-run third to grab a narrow lead. Angel Franco drove in a run with a single, Orlando Calixte collected an RBI with a groundout and the third tally came in care of an error by pitcher Trevor Holder. Ricky Hague's fourth homer of the season tied it up in the bottom half of the inning while Wilmington forged ahead in the fourth on a sac fly from Roman Hernandez. Then came the bottom of the frame.

Randolph Oduber tripled in a pair of runs and scored on the same play due to a Calixte throwing error as the P-Nats took the lead for good, 6-4. David Freitas salted the advantage with a run-scoring single that chased Pimentel (0-1) in the fifth. Holder (5-2) made it stand up with 7.2 innings of work. While he allowed four runs, just two of the tallies were earned. He struck out six and walked none. Adam Carr recorded the final four outs in succession for his first save.

The Blue Rocks return home for a brief three-game homestand against the Lynchburg Hillcats. It gets underway at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday night as Wilmington right-hander Jason Adam (1-9, 3.71) takes on the reigning Carolina League Pitcher of the Week, Aaron Northcraft (7-4, 3.38). Broadcast coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. as studio host Rob Cunningham brings fans the Rocks Report Pre-game Show, presented by Wawa, on 89.7 WGLS-FM and online at wgls.rowan.edu.

PEBBLES OF KNOWLEDGE:

This series marked the start of divisional foes only for Wilmington over a stretch of 13 straight and 17 of 20. The Rocks are 17-34 against Southern Division squads and 14-12 against their brothers in the North.

On the day he celebrated his 23rd birthday, Tyler Sample appeared in relief for the first time this season. The repeating right-hander tossed two scoreless innings in his first relief outing since July 1, 2011. He had started all of his first 15 appearances with this year's Blue Rocks.

Matt Ridings also fired 1.2 scoreless innings in relief. Not only did he strand an inherited runner from Pimentel, but he also struck out four of the six men he faced.

The Blue Rocks fell short of their first three-game road winning streak of the season. The team has not turned that trick since sweeping a four-game series at Salem from May 16-19, 2011.
