DASH FALL 10-5 IN TWIN BILL OPENER

The Dash came within one run of tying Down East in the sixth inning but fell short in game one of Sunday's doubleheader, as the Wood Ducks outlasted Winston-Salem to pick up a 10-5 win at Grainger Stadium. The Dash and the Wood Ducks traded zeroes for the first three innings, but in the bottom of the fourth, Down East got on the board first, plating five against Dash starter Luis Martinez. Despite Winston-Salem responding with three in the fifth and one in the sixth to make it a 5-4 contest, Down East scored five times in the sixth inning to pull away for good.

WOOD DUCKS BLANK DASH IN GAME 2

In game two of Sunday's doubleheader at Grainger Stadium, the Dash were shut out for just the third time this season, as Winston-Salem fell to the Wood Ducks 7-0. Down East starter Christian Torres held the Dash offense in check for much of the game, with Winston-Salem mustering only four hits in his six innings of work. As Torres dominated on the mound, the Dash fell behind early in the first inning. First, Anderson Tejeda stroked an RBI single to left field against spot starter Drew Hasler to put Down East up 1-0. Three batters later, Andretty Cordero hit a three-run bomb to left to put the Wood Ducks up 4-0. The Wood Ducks added one in the fourth before receiving solo homers from Alex Kowalczyk and Cordero in the sixth.

WELL-BALANCED ATTACK

Through the first 40 games of the season, the Dash have proven to be one of the most well-rounded teams in the Carolina League. Winston sits among the league leaders in several offensive categories. Winston-Salem leads the league in doubles (93), and the team is second in the league in batting average (.275), on-base percentage (.358), hits (388) and slugging percentage (.433). Meanwhile, Winston-Salem is third in the circuit in home runs (34) and runs scored (218). On the mound, the Dash sport the second-best ERA in the Carolina League with a 3.59 mark, with the third-most strikeouts (359).

HOT BATS

Among the Dash hitters, Zach Remillard, Alex Call and Ti'Quan Forbes have been swinging the hottest bats for Winston-Salem:

OF Alex Call: 18-for-54 (.333) with four homers and 14 RBIs over his last 15 games

INF Ti'Quan Forbes: 16-for-39 (.410) with one homer and 11 RBIs in 10 games

INF Zach Remillard: 13-for-36 (.361) over his last nine games; five multi-hit contests

WE MEET AGAIN, ASTROS

Monday marks the first game of a five-game set between the Buies Creek Astros and the Dash from May 21-24 at BB&T Ballpark. The two teams will square off in a doubleheader on Wednesday due to a rainout that occurred last Thursday at Jim Perry Stadium. Winston-Salem is currently 3-2 this season against its Southern Division foe. In their lone matchup at BB&T Ballpark this year, the Dash took two of three against the Astros from May 4-6. Overall, the Dash and Astros will face one another 20 times in 2018. Currently, both teams are 1.5 games back of first-place Down East in the Southern Division.

MR. CONSISTENCY

Winston-Salem will send left-hander Bernardo Flores to the bump in the series opener on Monday. The left-hander is currently 3-2 with a 2.74 ERA in seven starts this season. The former USC Trojan has lasted at least five innings in each outing this season, and he has logged a quality start in five of his seven starts. A seventh-round pick by the White Sox in 2016, Flores leads the Dash with 42.2 innings pitched, and he has the best ERA among qualifying starters. This season marks Flores' second go-around with Winston-Salem, after spending the second half of last year with the team.

DASH DOTS

Buies Creek is the only team in the Carolina League with a better ERA at 3.52...They also lead the circuit with 446 strikeouts.
