Game #42 (Away Game #22)

MUNO'S DOUBLE PROPELS DASH IN WIN

Thanks to a clutch two-run double from JJ Muno, the Dash pulled out a 3-1 victory over the Down East Wood Ducks on Saturday night at Grainger Stadium. With the game tied at one in the top of the eighth inning, Carlos Perez stroked a single to left against Wood Ducks reliever Alex Eubanks. The next batter, Craig Dedelow, bounced a ball right back to Eubanks. On the play, Eubanks threw the ball wide of first base, allowing Perez to scoot to third and Dedelow to second on the error. Following a flyout from Tate Blackman, Muno laced the go-ahead hit down the right-field line to give Winston-Salem a 3-1 edge. Codi Heuer earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief.

CHECKING IN ON THE FIRST-ROUNDER

Nick Madrigal, who was selected with the fourth overall pick in last year's draft out of Oregon State University, has now posted hits in five consecutive contests. After going 2-for-4 on Saturday, Madrigal has upped his season batting line to .268/.333/.370 in 35 games played. The 22-year-old is in his second year playing for the Dash. Madrigal joined the team at the end of last year, posting a .306 batting average and a .355 on-base percentage in 26 games played.

SOME GOOD TURNS IN THE ROTATION

Parke's turn in the rotation marks the fourth consecutive strong start for the Dash during this road trip. Here's a rundown of the last four starts for the Winston-Salem:

LHP Cristian Castillo at MB on 5/15: 7.0IP, 1R

RHP Jorgan Cavanerio at MB on 5/16: 4.0IP, 0R

RHP Lincoln Henzman at DE on 5/17: 6.0IP, 2R

LHP John Parke at DE on 5/18: 6.0IP, 1R

WE MEET AGAIN, DEWDS

After dropping all three games in a home series against Down East from May 10-12, the Dash are looking for some revenge against the Woodies. At 29-14, the Wood Ducks have the best record in the Carolina League this season. Last season, the Wood Ducks finished with the worst record in the circuit at 59-81.

UNSTOPPABLE IN MAY

Jameson Fisher currently leads the team in OPS (.809) and wRC+ (134). A fourth-round pick by the White Sox out of Southeastern Louisiana University in 2016, Fisher has been tearing the cover off the baseball in the month of May. In 15 games this month, Fisher is posting a .364/.444/.545 batting line with 10 runs scored. Fisher has specifically thrived in the four spot of the lineup this year, where he's hitting .370 in 15 games played.

SEEING HIM FOR THE SECOND TIME

Left-hander Konnor Pilkington, who was the White Sox third-round pick last year out of Mississippi State, will make his second High-A start on Sunday. In his first High-A outing, Pilkington allowed five hits, five walks and five runs against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Monday at TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark. Before joining the Dash, Pilkington posted a 1.62 ERA with 42 strikeouts in 33.1 innings pitched during his short stint with Low-A Kannapolis this year. Pilkington got on the national radar after an impressive 2017 campaign with the Bulldogs, during which he led his team in innings pitched and strikeouts. In 2017, he played on the USA College National Team alongside the likes of current Dash teammates Steele Walker and Madrigal.

EYE BLACK...WHO KNEW

During their previous six-game losing streak, the Dash pitching staff had posted a 6.00 ERA while the offense had recorded a .159 batting average. As a way of turning around their luck, Winston-Salem's position players and pitchers wore eye black on Thursday at Myrtle Beach and won the series finale 6-0 in the Grand Strand. Adding to the hi-jinx of that night, Dash hitting coach Jamie Dismuke acted as the team's third base coach in Justin Jirschele's place.

DASH DOTS

The Dash will kick off their first ever series against the Fayetteville Woodpeckers on Monday at BB&T Ballpark...Last year, the Astros High-A affiliate, the Buies Creek Astros, beat the Dash in the playoffs.
