Frederick Keys News Release
FREDERICK, MD. - Cody Sedlock was dominant for the Frederick Keys (20-21) and earned the win in a 5-2 victory over the Salem Red Sox (16-25) on Sunday afternoon at Nymeo Field. Sedlock (3-0) pitched a career-high seven innings and allowed one run on three hits while striking out six. It was the longest outing from a Keys pitcher this season. Willy Yahn paced the offense with three hits and 2 RBIs, while Keys' shortstop Sean Miller also tallied three hits.
Sedlock got off to a rough start as Jarren Duran doubled on the first pitch of the game. He later scored on Pedro Castellanos' RBI single to give Salem a 1-0, but Sedlock cruised from there. The Illinois native retired the next 18 batters he faced and did not allow a hit until the seventh inning. He threw a season-high 87 pitches and did not surrender a walk.
The Keys offense was active all day and finally tallied a run in the third inning. Yahn led off with a double, advanced to third and scored on a Trevor Craport double that hit the right field chalk line to tie the game 1-1. The Keys later loaded the bases but were unable to score.
Miller doubled to led off the fourth inning and scored on Yahn's ground-out to take a 2-1 lead.
Miller and Austin Hays tallied back-to-back base hits with one-out in the sixth to set up Yahn, who singled home Miller to make it 3-1. The Keys got two more runs in the seventh when Pedro Castellanos dropped a pop-up with the bases loaded and two-outs. Frederick was just 3-for-17 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.
Luis Perez struggled with command in his first inning in relief, walking a pair of batters and allowing them to advance to second and third after a wild pitch. Duran's sacrifice fly made it 5-2 but Perez forced Marcus Wilson to groundout to end the threat.
Jhonathan Diaz (2-4) was dealt the loss after he allowed two runs on three walks and seven hits in five innings. The Red Sox lineup totaled just three hits.
The Keys will host the Myrtle Beach Pelicans for a four-game series starting Monday, May 20. RHP Brenan Hanifee (2-3, 5.70) starts for Frederick opposed RHP Paul Richan (4-2, 3.22) for Salem. First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m. and the game can be heard on frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn radio app with pregame coverage starting at 6:45 p.m.
The Frederick Keys are the Advanced-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, and play their home games at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.
