RED SOX OUTLAST DASH 7-3

The Dash southpaw tossed seven innings and allowed three earned runs. Salem took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. After Flores got Santiago Espinal to fly out on the first pitch of the game, the next four Red Sox batters reached via three singles and a fielding error by Ti'Quan Forbes. After the Red Sox added another run in the second, the Dash finally got to work offensively against in the fifth. With the bases loaded and two outs, Forbes stroked a two-run single to left field to tie the game. Then, as Alex Call drew a walk, Basabe scored from third on a passed ball by Roldani Baldwin to give Winston-Salem a 3-2 lead. However, the Red Sox jumped back ahead for good via a two-run homer from Espinal, followed by a run in the eighth and two in the ninth.
MORE ON FLORES
In spite of picking up his fourth loss of the year. Flores continues to give Winston-Salem length. The southpaw has now logged nine quality starts over his first 11 outings of the season. He currently leads the Carolina League with 70.2 innings pitched. Meanwhile, his 2.80 ERA is ninth in the circuit.
PLAYOFF PICTURE
The Dash are currently in first place in the Southern Division, up a half-game on the Buies Creek Astros, who Winston-Salem is 5-5 against this year. The Dash last clinched a first-half championship in 2012, when the team went 44-25-1. Winston has made the playoffs four times in the Dash era (2009-present).
COMING FULL CIRCLE
After beginning the season at Five County Stadium, the Dash now travel to Zebulon, N.C. to wrap up their road slate for the first half. Winston-Salem dropped three of four against the Muddies from April 5-8, but they snapped an 18-game losing streak with a victory on April 6.
HOME-HEAVY END TO THE FIRST HALF
After a road-heavy schedule to start the season, which has seen the Dash play 32 of their first 54 games on the road, Winston-Salem closes out the first half with 13 of its final 16 games at BB&T Ballpark. The rest of the home slate includes a three-game series against Myrtle Beach (6/11-6/13) and a four-game set against Wilmington (6/14-6/17).
60 GAMES THROUGH
Through 60 games this year, the Dash are sitting near the top of the Carolina League leaderboards. On offense, the Dash lead the circuit in doubles (109) and triples (18). Meanwhile, the ballclub is second in the circuit in batting average (.258), runs scored (286), walks (213), slugging percentage (.403) and on-base percentage (.337). On the mound, the Dash have the third-best ERA (3.59) and third-most strikeouts (519). However, the Dash have struggled defensively, as the team is tied for the second-most errors (64) in the circuit.
BANKS IT IN
Left-hander Tanner Banks will take the hill in the series opener at Carolina on Friday. Last time out, Banks struck out a career-high 10 batters in a victory over the Mudcats on June 2. Overall, the southpaw has strung together four consecutive wins from May 16-June 2, going 4-0 with a 1.61 ERA. An 18th-round pick by the White Sox in 2014, Banks was a Carolina League All-Star in 2017, going 7-3 with a 3.05 ERA with the Dash. Due to a clogged rotation at Double-A Birmingham, which forced Dane Dunning to start the year with Winston-Salem, Banks was in extended spring training to begin the season before being transferred to the Dash's roster.
DASH DOTS
Overall, the Dash have lost 20 of 21 in Five County Stadium...The Dash rotation has strung together 11 quality starts over their last 15 outings...Winston-Salem has not had an above .500 first half since 2013, when they finished 38-32.
