Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM DASH (20-19, 50-58) vs. FREDERICK KEYS (16-21, 48-56)

RHP J.B. Wendelken (5-8, 5.10 ERA) vs. RHP Brady Wager (5-7, 5.58 ERA)

12 p.m. - BB&T Ballpark (Winston-Salem, N.C.) Game #109 (Home Game #55)

DANISH, DASH BLANK BUNDY, KEYS In a prospect pitchers' duel on Tuesday, Tyler Danish and three relievers combined on a 4-0 shutout over the Frederick Keys in a series opener at BB&T Ballpark. Danish tossed the first five innings and whiffed six Keys before Brad Goldberg (1.0 IP), Sean Hagan (2.0 IP) and Raul Fernandez (1.0 IP) finished off Winston's fifth shutout victory of 2014. Frederick mustered eight hits, but the Keys stranded 11 and went 0-for-8 with men in scoring position. Offensively, the Dash scored two in the fifth and two in the eight.

RODON OF A NEW ERA Left-hander Carlos Rodon has been promoted to Winston-Salem from the Arizona League, the White Sox announced Tuesday night. The Sox selected Rodon with the third overall pick in last month's MLB Draft. It was the franchise's highest draft pick since it made 22-year big leaguer Harold Baines the top pick in 1977. Rodon was a star for three years with NC State, which reached the College World Series behind Rodon in 2013 for the first time since 1968.

BUCKNER, HANSEN JUMP TO DOUBLE-A The White Sox also announced that infielder Grant Buckner and right-hander Kyle Hansen have been promoted to Double-A Birmingham. Buckner played 180 games with Winston-Salem since the start of 2013, and he hit .261 with 14 homers and 88 RBIs. This season, Buckner suited up for 61 games at four different positions (1B, 3B, LF and RF). Hansen leads the club and is tied for third in the Carolina League with eight wins, which account for half of the victories from the bullpen. Hansen was 8-4 with a 3.33 ERA in 31 outings, and he finished his time in Winston-Salem with 15.2 consecutive scoreless innings.

PUTMAN ACTIVATED In addition to these three promotions, righty Dave Putman has been activated from the disabled list. He boasts a 3.68 ERA (3 ER in 7.1 IP) over his first six efforts at the High-A level.

CAPPING A BIG JULY Tuesday starter Tyler Danish wrapped up his July with five more scoreless innings, lowering his month-long ERA to 1.10 (4 ER in 32.2 IP). Danish entered July with a 5.68 ERA in Winston-Salem, but this surge has dropped it to 3.10. Overall this season, the Valrico, Fla., native owns an ERA of 2.16 between the Dash (12 starts) and Low-A Kannapolis (seven starts). This is good for eighth among all qualifiers in full-season Minor League Baseball. Danish (19 years, 10 months, 18 days) is at least a year older than the rest of the top 10 in this category.

TRENDING UPWARD After 20 games in the second half, the Dash owned a share of first place in the Southern Division. However, Winston dropped eight of its next 12 from July 9-21, a skid that sent the club four games out of the top spot. The Dash have bounced back with five wins in their last seven contests, jumping back within a half-game of first. Winston-Salem would clinch a playoff berth, its fourth in the six-year Dash era, if it posts a better second-half mark than both Carolina and Salem.

TOP FIVE FOR TWO Winston-Salem outfielders Courtney Hawkins and Jason Coats remain in the top five in the CL in both home runs and RBIs. Hawkins is second in homers (16) and third in RBIs (66), while Coats checks in at fifth on both lists (14 HR, 63 RBIs). The Hawkins-Coats duo is the most productive teammate tandem in the CL with a combined RBI total of 129.

DASH DOTS Winston-Salem had dropped five of its first seven home games against Frederick before Tuesday's win...The Dash defeated Dylan Bundy, who was the first All-Star from the 2012 Midsummer Classic here in Winston-Salem to reach the Major Leagues...Bundy is working back from Tommy John surgery, which he had 13 months ago...The Dash improved to 9-4 on Tuesdays with the 4-0 triumph.
