DEDELOW'S BIG NIGHT CARRIES DASH
Outfielder Craig Dedelow racked up three RBIs on two hits in helping the Dash to a 5-4 victory over the Down East Wood Ducks on Tuesday night at Grainger Stadium. With the Dash trailing 1-0 and runners at first and second, Dedelow notched his first hit against Down East starter John King. The lefty slugger crushed a ball down the right-field line for a two-run triple to give Winston-Salem its first lead of the contest. The Dash added another run against King in the top of the fifth. With two outs, Tyler Frost belted a solo homer over the wall in right-center field to extend the lead to 3-1. In the top of the sixth, Winston-Salem continued to pile on. To lead off the frame, Steele Walker and Jameson Fisher hit back-to-back singles. After a popout by Zach Remillard, Dedelow bounced a single through the right side of the infield, scoring Walker to make it 4-1. Dedelow finished the night 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
RECAPPING THE FIRST HALF
With a victory against Carolina on June 16, Winston-Salem clinched its third-best first-half winning percentage (.594) in the Dash era (2009-present). The Dash also ended the first half in second place in the Southern Division. By posting a .594 winning percentage, the 2019 team trailed only the 2012 club (.637) and 2010 team (.614) in first-half finishes.
THREE DASH STARS EARN SOX HONORS
Former Dash star Nick Madrigal and current Dash outfielder Steele Walker have been named White Sox Minor League co-Players of the Month for June, while Winston-Salem right-hander Kade McClure has been named the White Sox Minor League Pitcher of the Month for June:
Nick Madrigal: Played four June games for the Dash before a promotion to Double-A Birmingham. Hit .370 last month with the Barons
Steele Walker: Posted a .330 batting average, a .379 on-base percentage and a .523 slugging percentage in 22 games in June for the Dash
Kade McClure: Went 1-1 with a 2.12 ERA in five High-A starts last month
A THIRD STOP FOR CAVANERIO
Right-hander Jorgan Cavanerio will make his ninth start as a White Sox farmhand on Wednesday. The Venezuela native was signed by the White Sox as a minor league free agent on May 10 after he was released by the Seattle Mariners. Prior to joining the Dash, Cavanerio pitched for Double-A Arkansas in Seattle's system, going 2-0 with a 7.88 ERA in seven outings. Cavanerio has also pitched in the Marlins system during his time in Minor League Baseball, signing with them when they were the Florida Marlins in 2011. The Dash are 6-2 in Cavanerio's starts. Last time out on June 28, the right-hander allowed just one run in seven strong frames in a win against Salem.
OFFENSE HAS BEEN THE KEY
Despite scoring just 19 runs during their current road trip, the Dash are the only team in the Carolina League that is in the top two in batting average (2nd), on-base percentage (1st) and slugging percentage (2nd). Meanwhile, the Dash are third in homers (58) and runs scored (363).
CEASE TO MAKE MLB DEBUT TODAY
The Chicago White Sox announced on Sunday that right-handed pitcher Dylan Cease, who was a Midseason Carolina League All-Star for Winston-Salem in 2018, has earned his first promotion to the Majors and will start the first game of a doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday. Cease becomes the 365th Winston-Salem alumnus to reach the Majors, with 57 of them playing for the franchise during the Dash era (2009-present). In 13 starts with Winston last year, Cease was 9-2 with a 2.89 ERA.
MR. DEEDS
Following his strong game on Tuesday, Dedelow is currently riding a nine-game hitting streak, during which he is 15-for-35 with a homer, three doubles, six RBIs and five runs scored. Throughout this time, Dedelow has posted five multi-hit efforts. A ninth-round pick out of Indiana, Dedelow currently leads the team with 10 homers and 39 RBIs.
