After Battenfield and Cory Abbott traded zeroes fort he first four innings, Winston-Salem jumped ahead in the fifth. The Dash sent nine men to the plate, scoring five runs on four hits with the aid of a Myrtle Beach error. Battenfield struck out five in six shutout innings of work. MORE THAN A DEVELOPMENT CARD

Winston-Salem has reached 60 wins in fewer games this season than the club has in any of its previous nine years of the Dash era (2009-present). Throughout the year, the Dash have been one of the most well-balanced teams in the Carolina League, and that has remained the case in the second half. The Dash are atop the Carolina League in several offensive categories, including runs (525), doubles (204), triples (31), hits (916), RBIs (493) and slugging percentage (.422). On the mound, the Dash have posted a 3.62 ERA and 822 strikeouts, both of which are good for second in the circuit.

COMING IN SHEEP-LIKE BUNCHES

With three position players promoted to Double-A Birmingham after the All-Star Break, the Dash have received great contributions from several members of their offense in the second half:

OF Luis Gonzalez: .313 AVG, 22 runs, 1 HR, 16 RBI; 12 multi-hit efforts in 26 games

C Yermin Mercedes: .333/.408/.488 with 2 HR, 16 RBI & 7 2B

INF Mitch Roman: .330 AVG, 1 HR, 20 RBI, 6 2B

OF Blake Rutherford: .337/.396/.495 with 2 HR, 22 RBI, 6 2B & 2 3B

INF Gavin Sheets: .356 AVG with 2 HR, 18 RBI & 10 2B

SETTLING IN AS ONE OF THE BEST

After clinching a first-half Southern Division championship, Winston-Salem has the fourth-best winning percentage in full-season Minor League Baseball with a .606 mark. Here's a look at the top teams in Minor League Baseball:

1. Bowling Green Hot Rods (Midwest League - A): 65-33 (.663)

2. Corpus Christi Hooks (Texas League - AA): 63-35 (.643)

3. Memphis Redbirds (Pacific Coast League - AAA): 63-37 (.630)

4. Winston-Salem Dash (Carolina League - A+): 60-39 (.606)

GOING A DIFFERENT ROUTE

Right-hander Lincoln Henzman toes the rubber as a starter with Winston-Salem for the third time on Sunday. Henzman, who is rated by MLB Pipeline, as the 25th-best prospect in the White Sox system, went 6-3 with a 2.23 ERA in 13 starts with Low-A Kannapolis in the first half. The 23-year-old was a fourth-round pick by the White Sox last year out of the University of Louisville. During his final year with the Cardinals, Henzman posted 16 saves in 37.2 innings pitched. Ironically, he replaced Zack Burdi in the closer's role, who was drafted by the White Sox in the first round in 2016.

THE LONGEST ROAD LEFT

The Dash are in the midst of a six-game road trip, with Winston-Salem in the midst of its second leg in Myrtle Beach. The Dash will not have a road trip of more than four games the rest of the year.
