DASH FALL 6-5 IN EXTRAS

Despite outhitting the Carolina Mudcats, the Dash lost 6-5 on Thursday night due to a bases-loaded, walk-off walk in the 11th inning. With Winston-Salem trailing 4-3 in the top of the ninth inning and down to its final out, Zach Remillard worked a walk with two outs from Carolina League saves leader Luke Barker. After Remillard moved to second on a wild pitch, Luis Gonzalez lofted an RBI single into right-center to tie the game. Tyler Johnson sent the game to extras with a scoreless bottom of the ninth, but the Dash fell in the 11th inning after the Mudcats loaded the bases with no outs and Pat McInerney walked to force in a run and end the game.

SHEETS ON A ROLL

Gavin Sheets continued his recent success on Thursday night with a 2-for-4 effort hitting in the five hole. Sheets has raised his batting average all the way to .293, and he is currently batting .367 in the second half of the season. A second-round pick by the White Sox out of Wake Forest in 2017, Sheets also has an impressive on-base percentage of .371 for the season.

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK

After several different roster moves made by the White Sox organization over the last week, a number of new players have joined the Dash roster in addition to Watts. Ian Clarkin joined the Dash after a rehab stint with the AZL White Sox. Outfielders JJ Muno and Nolan Brown were promoted to Winston-Salem from Low-A Kannapolis. Muno has appeared in two games so far with Winston-Salem, while Brown has yet to make an appearance at the High-A level.

DOUBLE DOWN

The Dash are atop the Carolina League in several offensive categories, including runs (502), doubles (195), triples (30), hits (882), RBIs (472) and slugging percentage (.418). The Dash are third in the circuit in home runs (76) and second in on-base percentage (.341). On the mound, the Dash are fourth in ERA (3.70).

THOSE SCOUTS ARE RIGHT, HE'S MONEY

After an eventful, yet tough season in 2017, Dash outfielder Blake Rutherford has shined in 2018. The 21-year-old is posting a .298/.341/.452 batting line with six homers, 18 doubles, six triples and a team-best 63 RBIs in 79 games played. Rutherford was traded over to the White Sox from the Yankees in July of 2017 after being selected as a first-round pick by New York in 2016. The California native hit just .213 in 30 games played with the Low-A Kannapolis Intimidators after the trade. However, Rutherford has been consistent with the Dash, especially as of late, as Rutherford is batting .323 in the second half of the 2018 campaign.

JOHNSON ON THE SPOT

Since joining the Dash after being promoted from Low-A Kannapolis at the start of the second half, right-hander Tyler Johnson has been dominant at the new level. On Thursday night, he fired two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out three. The former South Carolina closer and seventh-round pick by the White Sox has lowered his ERA to 2.19 in 12.1 innings of work at the High-A level.

KUBAT ON THE BUMP

Left-hander Kyle Kubat gets the start for Winston-Salem in Friday night's series finale with the Mudcats at Five County Stadium. The southpaw has been dominant out of the bullpen for the Dash in 2018, with a 2.12 ERA on the season at the High-A level. In one start this season, he worked three innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits while striking out two. More information is available on page 3.

DASH DOTS

With a 58-39 overall, the Dash currently lead the Carolina League in their overall record and are in first place with a half-game lead over Buies Creek in the second-half standings, as well. Last year, Winston-Salem finished with a record of just 56-84. This year, the Dash have already clinched a playoff appearance.
