Frederick Keys News Release
FREDERICK, MD - Yojhan Quevedo collected his eighth straight multi-hit game to help the Frederick Keys (45-53, 10-19) win 6-3 and complete the sweep of the Down East Wood Ducks (44-55, 9-20) on Friday night. It was the first sweep for the Keys since winning five straight against the Lynchburg Hillcats from June 11-13.
The Keys tagged Wood Ducks starter Emerson Martinez for two runs in the second. Preston Palmeiro was hit by a pitch, and moved to third on a T.J. Nichting double. Palmeiro then scored on a Jomar Reyes sacrifice fly while Nichting came home on a Quevedo double.
In the third, Randolph Gassaway collected a one-out double. He later scored on Nichting's second double to make it 3-0 Keys.
Quevedo led off the fourth with a solo home run to extend the Keys lead. Jake Ring followed with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Cole Billingsley collected a single to move Ring to third. A Garcia single scored Ring while the Keys sixth run came home on a Palmeiro single.
In the seventh, Mike Burke collected the first two outs before hitting Josh Altmann with a pitch. Brendon Davis then hit a two-run home run which made it 6-2 Keys.
The Wood Ducks threatened in the ninth. Anderson Tejeda reached on a bunt single and advanced to second on a throwing error by Tyler Erwin. An Erwin balk moved Tejeda to third, and he scored on a ground ball to third. A throwing error from Reyes allowed Ricky Valenica to reach base, and Altmann followed with a walk. With the tying run at the plate twice, Erwin collected two strikeouts to end the game.
Keys starter Michael Baumann (5-2) picked up the win. Using just 77 pitches, Baumann fired six innings of scoreless baseball and allowed just two hits. The right-hander walked two and struck out three. Martinez (4-10) suffered the loss. He allowed six runs on 12 hits over 6.2 innings while walking three, hitting two batters and striking out two.
