Davis Goes Yard, Woodies Drop the Finale with the Keys

July 20, 2018 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Down East Wood Ducks News Release

FREDERICK, MD - Six early runs for the Keys (10-19, 45-53) proved to much for the Wood Ducks (9-20, 44-55) in a 6-3 defeat - marking their ninth straight loss. Brendon Davis connected on his fifth homer of the season in the defeat.

The Keys knocked 12 off of starter Emerson Martinez to match his career high. Frederick did its damage in innings two-through-four. Yojhan Quevedo led the way as he was not retired and notched pair of RBIs including a two-run homer.

Down East trailed 6-0 through five with only two hits off of starter Mike Baumann. He would finish his night with six innings of work for his fourth win at the High-A level.

Davis' homer was his second of the half and his first since June 23rd at Winston-Salem. The blast came on an 0-2 offer with two outs in the seventh inning.

Martinez managed to work into the seventh inning to keep the bullpen as fresh as possible. Only Blake Bass was needed from the bullpen and he tossed an inning and a third scoreless.

The Woodies managed to plate an unearned run in the ninth off of closer Tyler Erwin, but ultimately ended the contest with the tying run at the plate.

The road trip continues on Saturday as the Woodies travel to Buies Creek for the final time in two season for the temporary home. First pitch for Saturday is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
