DASH DOMINATE WOOD DUCKS 11-0

Behind 17 hits and an impressive performance from right-hander Blake Battenfield, the Dash cruised to an 11-0 victory over the Down East Wood Ducks in the series opener on Friday night at Grainger Stadium. Every starter in Winston-Salem's lineup registered at least one hit in the 11th win of the season against the Wood Ducks. Meanwhile, Battenfield tossed six shutout innings and allowed just four hits. The win marked the ninth shutout of the season for Winston-Salem.

THE NEWEST STAR OF DASH CITY

Infielder Nick Madrigal, who was picked by the White Sox out of Oregon State University with the fourth overall selection in the 2018 Draft, made his High-A debut on Friday. Madrigal went 1-for-5 with an infield single. The highest-drafted player in OSU history, Madrigal joined the Dash roster after posting a .341 batting average in 12 games with Low-A Kannapolis. In 71 career plate appearances in the professional ranks, the 21-year-old has yet to strike out. Madrigal was with OSU when they beat Arkansas in the 2018 College World Series.

THE CREAM OF THE CROP

With the addition of Madrigal, Winston-Salem currently boasts eight of the top prospects in the White Sox system per MLB Pipeline on its active roster, including infielders Madrigal (No. 4), Gavin Sheets (No. 15) and Laz Rivera (No. 28), outfielders Blake Rutherford (No. 7) and Luis Gonzalez (No. 14) and right-handers Alec Hansen (No. 10), Tyler Johnson (No. 23) and Lincoln Henzman (No. 30). Luis Robert, who is rated the third-best prospect in the South Siders system, is on the Dash's disabled list.

THE BEST MERCEDES OUT THERE

A former Nationals and Orioles farmhand, Dash catcher Yermin Mercedes is now posting a .957 OPS after the All-Star Break. Mercedes went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs in the series opener on Friday. The 25-year-old was selected by the White Sox in the Minor League Phase of the Rule 5 Draft in December of 2017.

AMONG MILB'S BEST CLUBS

After clinching a first-half Southern Division championship, Winston-Salem now has the sixth-best winning percentage in full-season Minor League Baseball with a .596 mark. Here's a look at the top teams:

1. Bowling Green Hot Rods

(Midwest League - A): 72-38 (.655)

2. Memphis Redbirds

(Pacific Coast League - AAA): 70-41 (.631)

3. Lehigh Valley IronPigs

(International League - AAA): 68-42 (.618)

4. Corpus Christi Hooks

(Texas League - AA): 68-43 (.613)

5. Rancho Cucamonga Quakes

(California League - A+): 67-45 (.598)

6. Winston-Salem Dash

SWINGING LIKE A B. RUTH

Rutherford has been on a tear on the second half of the season. Since the All-Star Break, the 21-year-old is posting a line of .338/.395/.475 with two homers and 25 RBIs in 35 games played. A former first-round pick by the Yankees, Rutherford is second in the Carolina League in hits (110) and RBIs (68), and fourth in the circuit in batting average (.307).

A CARDINAL STARTING TO SOAR

Henzman will get the ball in Saturday's middle match at Grainger Stadium. A fourth-round pick by the White Sox last year of the University of Louisville, Henzman tossed three perfect innings in his last start, which took place against Salem. The right-hander has not allowed a run in his last seven innings. Henzman was a first-team All-ACC honoree in his final season with the Louisville Cardinals.

DASH DOTS

Rivera's 4-for-5 effort on Friday marked the 11th multi-hit game for the 23-year-old with Winston-Salem.
