Down East Wood Ducks News Release

KINSTON, NC - For the second straight night, the Wood Ducks (13-30, 48-65) failed to score an unearned run in a 5-1 loss to the Dash (25-15, 65-44). Leody Taveras extended his hitting streak to eight games in the defeat.

Rollie Lacy started for the Wood Ducks but struggled with command with three walks and two hit batters. He recovered well by inducing three double plays in his second start with the Wood Ducks. The right-hander also induced nine of ten in-play outs to be ground outs against the potent Dash lineup.

However the white-hot Laz Rivera drilled a 3-1 pitch over the wall in left-center for a three-run homer in the second. Rivera has six hits in the first two games of the series and four RBIs.

The Wood Ducks formed a rally with a single and a pair of walks in the third. Yet with the bases loaded, the offense could only scrape in one run on an error by third baseman Ti'Quan Forbes. Now the DEWDs are hitting .103 (7-for-67) with the bases loaded this season.

Lacy exited after five innings, trailing 3-1. The Dash offense was not finished, as they tagged Royce Bolinger for two runs in his two innings further their lead to 5-1.

Down East would only manage a 1-for-8 night with runners in scoring position and did not put a runner into scoring position for the final four innings.

The finale of the series comes on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. with right-hander Steven Bruce on the hill for the DEWDs. The gates open at 1:00 p.m. for Sunday Funday featuring pregame autographs, free tickets for Lil Dewds Kids Club members, and postgame kids run the bases.
