DASH'S ROAD FINALE WASHED OUT
Persistent rain in Myrtle Beach on Wednesday prompted the cancellation of the Dash's series finale with the Pelicans. The game will not be rescheduled because it was the final scheduled meeting between the two clubs in the regular season. Thus, Winston-Salem and Myrtle Beach split their season series, with the Dash going 7-2 on the Grand Strand and the Pelicans posting an 11-6 mark at BB&T Ballpark.
MAGIC NUMBER: 6
Even though the Dash did not play Wednesday, they still saw their magic number decrease from eight to six. The cancellation prompted a dip because it was the Dash's second canceled game and Winston has clinched a winning record in the second half. Also, the Mudcats, the team fighting with the Dash for the Southern Division's final playoff spot, dropped a 5-0 decision at home to Wilmington Wednesday. Thus, any combination of Dash wins or Mudcats losses that equals six would give Winston its first playoff berth since 2012 and its fourth in the Dash era.
AN EYE ON THE SKY
Not only do the Dash possess a five-game advantage on Carolina, but they also enjoy a 1.5-game lead on Myrtle Beach for the top spot in the Southern Division's second-half standings. If the Dash clinch their first division crown since a second-half title in 2012, Winston-Salem would host Game 1 of next month's Southern Division Championship Series. If the Pelicans rally to claim their fourth straight division title, all three potential SDCS games would be in Myrtle.
UNLOCKING THE KEYS?
The Dash have 11 regular season games left, and eight of them come against Frederick, who faces an elimination number of seven in the Northern Division race. No team has had more success against Winston in 2015 than the Keys, who have claimed eight of the first 13 meetings. This marks just the second set at BB&T Ballpark. In early July, the Dash claimed a walk-off win in the opener before losing the final two contests.
FINAL HOMESTAND OF 2015
While as many as four playoff home games are possible, the Dash do conclude their home portion of the 2015 regular season with this four-game set. It has been another successful year on the field and at the box office. Winston-Salem has already clinched its fifth winning home mark in six tries at BB&T Ballpark. Since the downtown facility opened in 2010, the Dash own a 241-175 (.579) home record, which is the best in the CL during that span. The Dash are also averaging 4,347 fans per game, which is the second-highest average in all of High-A baseball.
BYE BYE, DIVISIONAL PLAY
The Dash have wrapped up their intradivision games for 2015, and the club owns the second-best divisional record in the CL (39-32), behind only Myrtle Beach (40-29). On the flip side, the Dash are 27-29 against the Northern Division. Over the previous two seasons, the Dash were 51-69 (.425) within Southern Division play.
RECENT TRENDS
At the All-Star break, Winston-Salem was a league-worst 30-40. However, the Dash enter Thursday's action with a 66-61 overall mark, second-best on the circuit. A big key has been Winston-Salem's work in games decided by three runs or less. This half, the Dash are 28-13 (.683) in such games, compared to 18-25 (.419) in the first half. Since the break, Winston is a league-best 14-2 in one-run contests (7-11 in the first half). The Dash's bullpen has converted 28 of its last 30 save chances, with Tuesday's blown save representing the team's first since June 30.
DASH DOTS
This marks the second time in the Dash era (2009-present) that Winston-Salem has had two games canceled...The inaugural Dash club in 2009 lost a pair of games in June...Winston has not has more than two games canceled in a single season since 1995...Dash speedsters Adam Engel (59) and Eddy Alvarez (51) are tied for third and tied for fifth, respectively, in stolen bases in all of Minor League Baseball.
