LAST TIME OUT: Lynchburg used a five-run seventh inning to take an 8-4 lead for a comeback win over the Salem Red Sox on Wednesday night... Lynchburg plated a run in each of the first three innings to take an early 3-0 lead...LeVON WASHINGTON doubled to lead off the game and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by YHOXIAN MEDINA...WASHINGTON scored on a RBI groundout by CLINT FRAZIER to give the Hillcats a 1-0 lead in the first...In the second, BOBBY ISON lifted a ball into center field with the bases loaded for a sacrifice fly that scored MIKE PAPI to push the Hillcats ahead 2-0...DORSSYS PAULINO walked in the third, advanced to second on a double by HENDRIX, and scored on a sacrifice fly by PAPI to make it 3-0 through three innings...MITCH BROWN surrendered back-to-back walks to YOILAN CERSE and WENDELL RIJO before KEVIN HELLER singled to drive in CERSE to cut the Hillcats' lead to 3-1...In the next at-bat, MARIO MARTINEZ crushed a three-run home run on the first pitch over the left field wall to give the Red Sox their first lead of the game, 4-3... In the top of the seventh, CLAUDIO BAUTISTA doubled to lead off the frame and came home to score on a throwing error by GERMAN TAVERAS to tie the game at four...ISON advanced to second on the error and scored on the second RBI groundout by FRAZIER that allowed the Hillcats to regain the lead, 5-4...DORSSYS PAULINO smacked an RBI single that scored LeVON WASHINGTON from third to give the Hillcats a two-run advantage...PAUL HENDRIX walked in the next at-bat before MIKE PAPI roped a two-RBI triple off the center field wall that scored PAULINO and HENDRIX to give the Hillcats their final lead at 8-4.

VS. CAROLINA: Lynchburg is a mere 1-5 against the Carolina Mudcats this season and are winless (0-4) on the road at Five County Stadium...The last time the two squads met, the Mudcats swept a four-game series at Five County Stadium and two of the games were played as seven-inning doubleheaders...The Mudcats have outscored the Hillcats 39-15 over the course of six games...Lynchburg and Carolina meet less than any other opponent this season...The squads only meet 14 times in 2015 and Thursday marks the first meeting since May 7, the longest stretch without a matchup, however, the two teams will meet eight times over the course of the final two weeks of the regular season...Lynchburg, as a team, is hitting just .209 against the Mudcats this season, their worst average against any team in the league...CLINT FRAZIER leads the Hillcats with a .313 batting average against the Mudcats...FRAZIER has a home run and three RBIs to go along with four walks and two runs scored in five contests against Carolina...The Mudcats, however, are hitting an astounding .318 against the Hillcats and are led by DUSTIN PETERSON who is hitting .435 in six games against the Hillcats.

SEVEN IS THE MAGIC NUMBER: After an 8-4 win against the Salem Red Sox last night, the Hillcats have a five game lead over the Frederick Keys, with 11 games to play...That makes the Hillcats magic number to clinch a playoff spot at seven...The Hillcats do not face a Northern Division opponent for the remainder of the season and do not face an opponent in the top two of either division for the remainder of the season....Lynchburg will play three more games against the last-place Salem Red Sox, eight games against the South Division third place Carolina Mudcats...Frederick, who trails Lynchburg by five games, still has to play eight games against the first-place Winston-Salem Dash.

HAASE HAS THE STUFF: Catcher ERIC HAASE continued to shine at the plate for the Hillcats...HAASE went 1-for-2 at the plate and scored two runs after showing discipline at the plate and earning two walks against the Salem Red Sox earlier this week...Over his last eight games, HAASE is hitting .421 with a home run, six RBIs, and six runs scored...Over his last 11 games, HAASE has seen his batting average jump from .229 up 15 points to .244 and his OBP has climbed from .333 to .344 during that span....HAASE leads the team in batting average over that stretch as he has posted a .421 average.

MEDINA COOL IN THE CLUTCH: Infielder YHOXIAN MEDINA has been rather clutch for the Hillcats this season...Through 50 games played this season, MEDINA is hitting 18-for-54 (.333 ) with runners in scoring position with 19 RBIs...When the bases are loaded, MEDINA is hitting (.250), but has recorded five RBIs and his OBP is .400 with the bags full...MEDINA has driven in the go-ahead run five times this season and the game-winning run three times...Over the course of his last seven games, MEDINA is second on the team in batting average with a .348 mark, which is second on the team during that span to ERIC HAASE (.421).

STRONG OUT OF THE PEN: Hillcats starting pitching has turned in an astounding 29 quality starts in 58 second half contests and has turned in a 3.23 ERA since the All-Star Break, but down the final stretch of the season, it is the bullpen that has helped keep the Hillcats in first place...Over the last eight contests, the Hillcats bullpen has hurled a total of 22 1/3 innings and has not surrendered a run while allowing just six hits, walking five, and striking out 26 batters...JUSTIN BRANTLEY has picked up a pair of wins and a hold during the stretch, PERCI GARNER has pitched three innings and earned his second hold of the season, GRANT SIDES picked up his fifth and sixth saves of the season, ROBBIE AVILES earned his seventh hold, and TREVOR FRANK picked up his first save as a Hillcat as well...Newcomer DAVID SPEER, who made his debut appearance for the Hillcats on Saturday night after being promoted from Lake County, pitched one inning and has not allowed an earned run over his last 15 appearances spanning 20.2 innings...During that time, he has struck out 18 and walked just six...During the month of August, the pitching staff as a whole has posted a 2.62 ERA in 23 contests and has struck out 100 more batters than they have walked (162 strikeouts to just 62 walks).

THIS DAY IN BASEBALL HISTORY: On August 27, 1997, in honor of first baseman Jim Thome's birthday, the Indians begin pulling up their socks to just below the knees. The Tribe will win 17 of 27 games en route to clinching the American League East flag while sporting this new look.
