Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

MYRTLE BEACH, SC. (AUGUST 27, 2015) -- The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, are pleased to announce their 2016 regular season schedule. The 2016 season begins Thursday, April 7 with the Pelicans hosting the Baltimore Orioles Class A-Advanced affiliate, the Frederick Keys. The opener is part of a seven-game homestand, also featuring division rival and Chicago White Sox affiliated Winston-Salem Dash.

For the second straight season the Carolina League schedule favors division games. For a third straight year it features shorter homestands and road trips, ensuring that the maximum number of visitors to the Grand Strand will have the opportunity to attend a Pelicans game. There is at least one home game scheduled every calendar week between April 7 and September 1, the final home game of the season, with no longer than nine days between home games at any point.

The schedule is once again loaded with home games during the summer months, with 13 in July and 16 in August. The schedule is great for Spring Breakers coming to Myrtle Beach as well with homestands April 7-13 and April 21-24.

Promotionally, fans can expect the return of popular weekly staples. The 18th year in franchise history will feature 11 Thirsty Thursdays, nine Wiener Wednesdays, postgame fireworks, and more! While the full promotional schedule and fireworks shows will be released at a later date, shows can be expected on Opening Day as well as July 2 and 3.

Fans will be able to celebrate a number of holidays with the Pelicans as well. Myrtle Beach plays at home on Armed Forced Day (May 21 vs. Lynchburg) and Memorial Day (May 30 vs. Wilmington). The club will also celebrate Independence Day on July 2 and 3 as they host the Red, White, and Blue of the Potomac Nationals in a four-game set from June 30 - July 3.

The Pelicans complete their home schedule on Thursday, September 1 vs. Lynchburg and wrap up the season with a four-game series in Woodbridge, Virginia against Potomac that concludes on September 5.

The Mills Cup playoffs would begin Wednesday, September 7.

Game dates are subject to change, and all game times are to-be-determined.
